GU rear diff capacity

Post by BundyRumandCoke »

I have looked through the bible, but cant find a definative answer.

What is the capacity of the rear diff on a GU iv Patrol? I have recently had an air locker fitted, and after 2000km I returned to have the diff oil changed, as suggested. I was charged for 8 litres. I know its a big diff housing, but that seems a bit much to me.

I drive a GQ and my front diff took 6L and my Rear (LSD) took only 2.4L....even still i highly doubt your rear diff in a GU would need that much....Did they maybe do both front and rear without telling you?

No, they didnt do the front. They were well aware the front diff hadnt done any work since being fitted the previous week, where as the rear had done 2000km+

They were the ones who told me they wouldnt change the front because of that.

mate i did all my oils on my ute on sunday just gone, she's a diesel 03 gu turbo intercooled 4.2 and my rear ended up using 4.8-5 litres of that castrol 90w180 or whatever it was (real thick sh*t), my front took a misleading 5.8 litres! not sure what the go there is.

i know the rear diff in the gu utes are much stronger than the wagons so i am only guessing there may be a difference in their levels as well. however 8 litres sounds like there taking you for a ride, where was it done?

Also i went to my local repco and they told me they had no listings for my rear diff cap, which i thought was odd and frustrating enough but they also told me that my front diff would take 2.6 liters which is laughable and completly off
