Hey guys, i am putting transfer gears in and i have got a reco diff for my 1.3L sierra and i am just wondering what are the best oils to run? what is the best viscousity to use and what is the best brand?
any help will be greatly appreciated as i dont want these to self destruct!!!!

According to my web reseach, second (and cheaper) would be the penrite SIN range. Its also been recommended to me by people with track racing experience.
FYI I've also been told by a racer "never buy redline" which just goes to show that for every product (no matter how good) there are people out there who have had bad experiences.

x2 vmx is good but they don'y need anthing special just clean diff oil.
the thing that wrecks diffs and transfers is water.
I use half moreys (the honey looking goop)and a good diff oil in my transfer just to kill the whine and take the shock load and use plain old diff oil in the diffs , they are not really high performance machines boys.
you would be better off using a plain diff oil and changing it more often.

85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.
Well you know how these things go. It was a replica GTHO w/LSD racing in one of the nostalgia classes, chewed up two or three diffs in two or three outings. Apparently redline coughed up to rebuild the diffs as the oil was at fault. T-case oil- castrol VMX 80wt. 1L
Gearbox oil- castrol VMX 80wt. 1.3L
Front Diff oil- castrol EPX 80-90wt. 1.5L
Rear Diff oil- Penrite LIMSLIP 85-140 1.5L (i got a lockright)
also in the Tcase and diff i put in some nulon oil addative will be doing the same for the gearbox when i dump the oil next

i am always interested in the good and the bad, gives me more of an understanding.
All I have done is read of redline oils, always the good, and then went to their website and looked, then decided to do my lil toy with it, so far so good.
Bein a 1.3l she needs all the help she can get, and diff oil with a rating of 90 140 but at SAE30 imo is a pretty good thing. Thats why she has it all thru her, cept engine where I run Mobile 1
Most of what I read was regarding people chasing the horsepower status.
If it breaks, excellent, time for an upgrade

I have tried this before to quieten noisey drive line components. Seemed to smooth them out and reduce noise. YMMV.

In my old Feroza (with a very worn gbox) I was having immense trouble on cold mornings with gears grinding when changing up and down. I tried a mix of auto trans fluid (not much better), VMX 80 (made it sound like a can full of marbles and only a minor improvement!) and finally Redline Shockproof Lightweight. The Redline not only made changes when cold "normal" with no grinding, it also quietened the box down by a factor of around 10 and made all the shifts so much smoother it was unbelievable!
The funny part is I don't think it's recommended for synchro boxes, but I used it for the best part of three years and it made an old worn out box very smooth.
I've since used it in another vehicle with similar improvements (a Hyundai Excel that had done 110000km). My wife couldn't beleive the oil was the only thing changed. That was MT90 IIRC?
So I'm a fan and certainly recommend it from personal experience.
The funny part is I don't think it's recommended for synchro boxes, but I used it for the best part of three years and it made an old worn out box very smooth.

as someone said sierras are not performance machines. castrol VMX80 is fine in all. thats F & R diffs, transfer and gearbox. also i like penrite transaxle 75. clean oil with no water is the key. if your parts are stuffed and on its last legs maybe try some addative or the other stuff others are recomending.

The justification for redline in my case is as follows:
660 Gearbox - very hard to find, in a heavier car than it was designed for, and has a slightly noisy 5th gear.
transfer: $900 worth of transfer gears. Again, heavy car, lots of reduction compared to standard $35 of gear oil doesn't seem so bad - it has a breather on it, so there's no reason to change it with any frequency.
front diff: airlocker, 5.12's, solid pinion spacer and doubletoughs - I want to protect a substantial investment in parts the best way I can. agian, it's breather equipped and I have no reason to open it unless it's broken, which shouldn't happen.
The back diff, which has a rough 5.12 in it and a mini spool has whatever 90W I have lying around in it because there's no reason to put the good stuff in it.
for me, It's about protecting an investment.
