solution for air line breaking on rear air locker??

Has anyone else had this prob? the blue air line keeps splitting just b4 it goes into the diff on my rear locker - have repaired it 5 times this will be number 6 - the air line's getting shorter each time lol... any ideas?? its a GQ diff if it makes a difference

hydraulic line. ARB sell a HD airline kit @$86ea, I had 2 made with all fittings for $96 at LHS. Pertek or similar can do it too.

i have a split in my line i'm going to try a few layers of heat shrink and see if that works
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

I changed my locker airline to 6mm and carry some spare tube and joiners. I have had no probs since the hyd hose though.

no chance it will seal.

you would need to put it on and shrink it over wet silicon or epoxy or something, to actually seal the pressure.

i know it was a pain for you to get fittings the right size but i am using 1/4 inch black nylon air line from compak just down the road from you. never had any dramas.

the old dude down there has LOADS of fittings available too

fittings to do the swap to 6mm airline and 1/4 hyd line is easy, I can have a look and list whats needed if need be.

all trucks use air lines these days, so joiners and replacment hose can be bought cheaply all over aust at any truck place. Even a few truckies carry joiners just in case. a quick cruise around a truck stop will usually get you a joiner.

sadley most trucks don't use 5mm hose they use 4mm or 6mm , probably be a good idea to change the line and fittings to something thats not arb specific . in saying that arb sell the joiners for $12 .

yea mite try some of the above ideas -- $12 from arb for the joiner is good but after 6 times it gets expensive lol

If your still running the rear swaybar it could be fouling on where the air locker line is, it's possible the lockers fitting was installed in a poor position and the line is getting damaged by the swaybar under suspension operation.

go the VDO, they are factory fitment for kenworth, they are easy to read at a quick glance, esp wehn you have 20 to look at.

Out of all the trucks ive driven the vdo's seem to be the easiest to read and are reliable, etc.

100 psi is pretty low pressure, there's not a lot of force involved. a few layers will work.

we have some awesome heat shrink at work, it comes pre loaded with an internal layer of hot melt glue, but I don't know if it is available to people outside the electricity industry.

Get the equivalent size air tube in polyurethane tube not the usual hard plastic used by ARB (and most places).

Poly is much more flexible and less susceptible to breaking due to the suspensions movement.

You can get the tube from any good pneumatics supplier, look up Festo or Norgren for their nearest agent, take a sample of tube in ask for the same tube in polyurethane and that should solve the problem.

Take the centre brass support tube out of the air line olive/fitting at the diff and run it without , you will have no more problems.

change to 6mm

ive changed from 5mm plastic to 6mm copper lines all the way back to a mount on the crossmeber,
then run hyd 6mm to rear housing with extra lenght 200mm spring to keep it up .
then if some thing hits it the spring might brake but not the line i have never broken it yet in that time broke two brake hoses so it worked really well

Not stating the obvious here, but where your line goes into the fitting, do you have the protective spring that goes over the fitting and the first inch or two of the air line?

A desent size stone will still crack the airline where the ferule is inside the nylon tube.
