most wreckers have waiting lists for them from a previous post on here.
just searched "tb48 conversion" and found one person that was thinking of doing it, but couldn't find anyone who had and that was going back as far as 2004. are there any other sites that might have someone that's actually done the conversion?

true, but there just doesn't seem to be any around, i know that people that see something out of the ordinary these days they take a photo with their phone put it on the net and it eventually gets linked back to sites like this, just look at any time someone sees a 2010 patrol, they're linked back to this site within 24 hours.

Ive been thinking about this also. Isnt there a stroker kit for the tb42 to make it 4.8ltrs or can you use the 4.8 crank and pistons in the tb42? I know people say go a V8 but i like the six and i like to be different. If anyone has any links it will help greatly and will give other ideas for people who cant get hold of a TB48e.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
what do you want for it?oz4wd wrote:So what is a 4.8 motor and 5 speed auto box worth?
I am thinking of a engine change in mine to convert it from the 4.8 petrol to a diesel motor (V8 or 4.2 turbo) if i can get good money for the 4.8 than it will be more attractive to do

Hi guys im not sure about the 4.8 but I do know from my own research that if you do a 4.5 conversion you also need the ignition barrel and key as it has a sensor in the key or remote can't remember which one. For the imobiliser in the computer. Other wise it became a paper weight Might be worth asking around if you find a motor will it come with that stuff if needed.
What makes the 4.8 so much better than 4.2 and 4.5 is not it's capacity, but more it's DOHC multivalvetrainMARKx4 wrote:Ive been thinking about this also. I've been looking into the tb48 engine conversion myself spoken to a few people. So far i have found out that. The TB48 engine and manual gearbox can can be run with the ignition barrel and coded key. Where as tb48 motor and 5 speed auto needs the ignition barrel, key and the dash. This is because the engine ECU communicates with the gearbox via a Bus system that gets some of its info via the dash. Is it possible to run the auto box without the dash ? As i really do not want to run a Gu dash in my Gq. The other option is run a manual valve body in the auto transmission. Wholesale automatice transmissions in Vic sell one for $1250. Whilst this solve the transmission problem the engine still need a computer to run. Could a manual tb48 engine ecu be used with a manualised auto box or is an after market engine ecu the only way to go ?
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.
