hilux rear diff plug?? URGENT HELP PLEASE!!!
hey my rear diff plug (the one on the side where you refill your diff with oil). is it a right hand or left hand thread? i couldnt get it off with a breaker bar and hammer. ended up useing a hammer and cold chissel cuase i had the shits. now its completly fark the head of the bolt.
this is totaly my fark up. how can i get the plug out now??

What Ive also done with my 6 sided socket is grind the end couple of millimeters off to get rid of the tapered section of the socket. It helps the socket to grip better as there is more surface area toucking the filler plug.Emo wrote:Get a 6 sided socket. Before you ever try and undo the filler plug. Hit it hard with a hammer a couple of times right on the head of the plug. Like it was a nail and you were trying to drive it into the housing. After this its usually easy enough to undo with a 24mm spanner.
yeah it wasnt me that did it up, it almost feels like it was done up wit a rattle gun. must of been the last onwer cuase i havnt done it for over a year since ownin the car its orite but apart from the oil being realy black, like realy black!sloshy wrote:Don't do it up with a breaker bar?

i agree with the 6 sided hex sockets as i just went through this with my transfer one(tonight) i didnt have any 6 sided ones, and i was the last person to do it up, but i didnt think it was that tight, well i ended up just welding another 24mm nut onto it,
i went to the wreckers a couple weeks back for a 2 of them plugs, he just gave them to me, free works for me. and since then have spent the better part of a grand, ha ha.
but knowing that they have chunkeyer ones i may go out and purchase 4 of them.

another trick (i have had heaps of dramas with these on the side of the track)
Use a little bit of antisieze on evert bolt and nut on your 4by... trust me you will appreciate it when things come undone instead of siezing...
but as said always use a singe hex socket.
EDIT: also if you go to toyota you can buy a toyota corona plug which has a larger head and you will not have any problems. Same size thread but bigger head. But this is no good for the drain and only good for the filler.

Though i now use plugs from locktup4x4 which instead of having the flats for the socket are use a 'inhex' bit (or allen key) these work even better and are slim line. But you have to ensure you remove all the dirt out of them before you stick the allen key in them
