Just in the process of changing the rotor button from the original to the mazda 1.6 turbo, not quite sure what to do. Apparently you can take the brass insert from the gti one and put it into the mazda one?
Have I got the wrong one because the hole is way to big on the mazda rotor button?

all I can think is that they have given me the wrong rotor button.. I found this post here which basically says the brass insert from the gti one is a press fit to the mazda. Ill go back to the store tomorrow and see.

All you have to do for a mk2/3 is open up the base of the cap about 2mm with a dremel.
For the rotor you need the brass sleeve out of the gti rotor, which is a press fit into the existing hole in the mazda rotor, drill a hole in the pastic for the clamping screw and your done, install leads so firing order is correct.
Although ive just modded the mk2/3 gti distributor to fit in a sierra angle drive. You can use the angle drive adaptor from suzisport.
The gti distributor fits in the angle housing, one clamping bolt lines up. Then i cut the gti shaft where the pin that holds the drive plate thing. I also cut the sierra distributor shaft about half way.
After that i turned the sierra shaft down to 8.1mm, drilled the gti shaft out to 8mm pressed them together and put a roll pin through the shaft.

Just had a thought, to get the brass bit out of the gti button, i had to cut the plastic away. The brass bit may get bigger when you remove some of the plastic.
The one i had was splined on the outside of the brass bit to stop it spinning once pressed in to the plastic.
If you dont need the gti rotor, cut some plastic away to see if the brass bit gets bigger. You can only buy the hitachi rotor button from suzuki geniune.

No you have to use the 323 rotor, i was saying the one i got the brass bit out of was off a hitachi distributor.
The 323 rotor looks the same as the one i used.
Where are you located, i have the one i modified, didnt end up using it.
Made up a right angle drive instead.
You can have it, and the cap for $70, brand new

I get you now- I ended up making an insert to fit but I didnt realise it was possible to make a right angle drive so Im going to look into doing that!
From what i understood the 323 Dizzy Cap would only work on the MK2 and MK3 GTI
You are stuck with an Angle Drive of some type for the MK1 ,Thats what i am using.
323 solution is far from ideal. I could get the dizzy to fit with it, (just) but you would have need to remove the motor or bash the firewall alot just to take the dizzy cap off.
