random hose from engine bay...?

possibly the bypass hose, but that would cause a water/coolant leak..it runs from a t-piece on the motor side of top of carby, right down under the carby, where the radiator hose goes into engine. t-piece sends water thru the auto choke, also. people block these bypass hoses, but I believe thats not wise. it allows water to circulate before thermostat opens, saves waterpumps etc. other than that, it all looks similar to mine, I'm guessing he/she mixed and matched parts, and had a hole left over to block up... or somebody left it under engine bay, and it wasnt ever connected to anything :?:

I don't think there has been an engine converstion here Chris - i think the car was always a 1.3... (look at the brake cylinder - isn't that a 1.3 style?)

On another note - Stumped - that is by far the cleanest engine bay i have ever seen... Please have some self respect and put some mud / dust in there (even if you have to go out and by spray on mud to achieve this)... :)

yes its a 1.3, but early models thru to later models vary quite a lot in their plumbing/wiring etc. swift conversions can have left overs, too. later models have electric chokes, his has water operated choke. earlier 1.3's dont have the auto airfilter thingy, you swith hot/cold manually. I believe it was a old part, just left in engine bay by a mate with an evil sense of humor :twisted:

lol.. i don't think it's the evil sense of humour, as the only two mates that have been anywhere near the engine spent half an hour trying to work it out late one night when they wanted to be sleeping....

it's an 88 WT, 1.3 from the factory. has been rebuilt apparently tho...

haven't noticed any leaks, but i'll have a close look soon. what's with the non-auto airfilter thing u mentioned christover? have to switch manually???

i'll try and get a pic of the hose, but i left it at my mates place by accident. i didn't think my engine bay was that clean, but looking over the pics it is eh? maybe it's cos i still have inner guards :D

I mean the hot/warm/cold weather adjustment for the air intake. In very cold weather, carbies freeze up, unless the air comes from the heated exhaust area. In very hot weather, best for air to come from a cooler source. On 1.o's its a manual swith on the air filter. on early 1.3's its same thing, just different type. on later 1.3's its adjusted automatically, by something whizz bang?

this is the hose, it's next to a 40cm ruler. interestingly, the hose says fuel line hose on it, and 8mm. the second pic is an out of focus one of the plugged end...

does this help at all?

Dare i ask - have you checked that your fuel lines are all connected?

There should be 3 if i recall correctly... These run down the wheel well just near the battery then along the chassis back to the tank.

I would suggest that it could be your vapour return line? Which - if you don't have a cap that seals well on your fuel tank could explain why the car runs okay without it right?

also some after market fuel pumps have a spare outlet/inlet that is not needed on sierras. It is usually not functioning unless you physically open it. maybe owner blocked it off, just in case?
fuel pump has 3 hoses standard, the outlet going to the carby, the main supply (larger hose) and the return to tank of unused fuel (smaller hose).
I'm thinking your fuel pump may have a spare outlet/inlet. If it dont leak, it probly dont matter. christover

yeah, fuel lines are all connected as far as i can tell. where does the vapour return line come from? cap seems to seal ok, cos i get a whoooosh noise when i run the tank to empty and open the cap. then again, maybe that's why my fuel economy is so bad, lol.

what are those hoses on camo's pic? come from? and run to ?

Wish it would rain here ... it's drying out a bit to much again .. wonder how empty the water storages are at the moment ...

I think about 53% according to the sign on hoddle street... though you could go to the melbourne water site and really find out if you wanted to. :)
