Too loud?

Post by mercxr6T »

Gday fellas,
I have broken the mounts off my exhaust and where the muffler is wellded on and there is now a split aswell from it being banged around. It is a lukey performance muffler. I thought they were for petrol engines. If I cut the muffler off completly how loud would it be or do I definately need a muffler. I just remember reading somewhere that people do cut them of. Its a sd33T, Cheers .

the turbo sucks up heaps of the noise of the engine anyway, worse case if its to loud put a resonator in its place

It'll sound horn!

I got straight pipe on my gu ute, no mufflers.
Sounds like a mack truck (well mates reckon so anyway)

Awesome rumble when you go through city tunnels, drop a gear, and slam the right foot!

Just do it and stop being a nancyboy!

I had a 2.5" straight through on my MK wagon - that was great! I had a 3" straight through on my MK ute, dumped behind the cab - that was too loud for my liking.

chop it off

i ran 3inch stainless straight through from headers back, just cause i had it lying around, on 250crossflow in FJ45 crusier ute. sounded the goods. put a horn on a jellyfish twice to my knowledge.

I've had a 3" put on my n/a 4.2....in anticipation of that turbo one day

The place said it might be a bit loud at the mo but when I turbo it to take the muffler off and it will be cool, maybe even quieter. So you have nothing to lose eh?

just chop it
my TD42 with turbo on the GQ ute is a 3" mandrel bend pipe to about 150 mm before the end of the cab, where it ends in a flange, cause i unbolted the rest, sounds awesome. the small turbos muffle alot of the noise anyway.

Thanks for the replies fellas, But I have just refitted the muffler. I figure it would prob be a bit much drone for the kids in the back on long trips. Otherwise it would be gone. Cheers.
