lift questions?

Post by sclux96 »

This is another age old suspension question, please forgive me.
Trying to decide between a RUF and calmini shackle reversal plus 1" body lift, or anyone done the RUF + shackle reversal??
looking to fit 31" bf goodrich tyres but keep it low. i will do some minor triming but not cutting it up.
this is a 93 samurai that will see alot of road use plus some weekend offroading.
any advice about these setups, will either of these work ok??
thanks.

a few on here have had the calmini SR kit before and just smashed the "fangs" on stuff... i reckon go RUF.

for low and soft ruf is fairly good but i can only talk for half ruf, it works and its low and flexy. but to do it without rubbing i recon tubing will be needed. other wise you need a bl and then your getting high again.

all ive heard about shackle reversal is that people tend to smash the front leaf to chassis mount on stuff

calmini could be easier and possibly cheaper but also a gamble on performance.

Its only worth doing a half RUF ( without the chassis ext. ) if youre only going to run 31's otherwise the front shackle will take a hammering.

Why the shackle reversal?

I've done it in the past and I can't see the advantages.

I am considering the shackle reversal because the samurai will be used alot on the road, figured it will have better road manners?????
I have never had a samurai with either setup that's why I am hoping to get some feedback from you guys.
1/2 RUF + 1" body lift + some hammer work should fit 31"s and have decent road manners??
Thanks for the replys.

Why?
is it because with a 30's or 29's the shackle will bottom out. it shouldnt be a problem with bigger as far as i can figure.

Perhaps I could have worded my reply a bit better but yes the chassis ext. and shackles will tend to hurt your approach angle on anything under 31's. I've only got a 2 inch chassis ext. with the shackle mounts right on the end, even with the diff almost 3 inches forward and on big 32's my shackles take a good beating.

In the pic below the axle is in the stock full RUF position, about 1.5 inches forward.
