Never seen one break.. heard that they could because of only having 4 main bearings..

What was he doing when it broke? was the engine loaded up? any chance of some pics of the break when u pull it out? its not hard to tell if it was cracked/fatigued before it broke by looking at the break..

Cheers

Looks like the crank may have been cracked for some time. All journels are perfect std size and not out of shape, oil issuse ruled out. Although as stated it broke on the front side of No. 1 big end right through the gallery hole.

Now i think engine load and boost pressure can be ruled out also due to the break being at the wrong end of the crank. All it has to turn was the pulley! This is his 4th sd33. A mistake on his part, kept putting in 2nd had engines. When engine 1st went in was over fueling badly. he fitted a reco'd pump and squiters. A week later breaking badly through crank case after running engine flush crap. Was not such a big deal but we knew somthing was wrong. Under boost vapour cleared up,put it down to broken ring land or shagged rings.

Towed car on trailer 2hrs from melbourne he was very happy best the car ever went 350de EGT's, coolant temp up a bit round 95. The last 20klm bad water leak from head gasket. All down hill from there. I towed tralier back to mel with another car on it. On his way back had to stop every 30klm to top up water. He got 12km from his house started knocking badly. Tilt tray home.

Now pull head off. head ok, pre-comps cracked. All six pistons cracked from the pre-comp area. I see this due to over fueling from the old pump and injectors for a long time. (eng came from a wreckers) Possible crank break from diesel knock???

Sorry about the freakin essay report!! Good too see a few people still driving the old SD around!!

Pongo my shute (the ute cab u sold me way back when) runs 10psi @ 1700rpm and bigger grins from there up.

I had to get the pump done up cost me $2000 but when i towed the tralier for 2hrs 18psi @ 2600rpm 445 de EGT's 82 de coolant i was happy as. It an N/A 84 engine with factory turbo and pump done 400 000klms. Going on the dyno soon. cant see the point for an intercooler with these figures so far.
