Diesel Oil in a Petrol

Diesel Oil in a Petrol
Hey Guys,
Has anyone ever used diesel oil in a V6 petrol to give the engine a bit of a cleansing? A mate recommended to run some diesel oil for a 1000km's or so to give the engine a bit of a flush which should hopefully quieten the lifters down too.
I know diesel engine oil has a high detergent level which theoretically should give it a bit of a cleanse, but will it actually do any damage i.e. to seals, etc?
Cheers,
GOONA

Oils for diesel engines are usually 'better' than those for petrol engines - just because diesel engines put higher demands on the oil.
Caltex Delo 400 Multigrade is an excellent oil, suitable for both petrol and diesel engines. It's most probably 'over-kill' for a petrol engine.

Once there stuffed the stuffed. You could run a thinner oil when you fix it. My last car was know for being bad with lifters with subaru rebuilding some engines. I was running a thin oil 5w30 from memory and it seemed to help but it came back eventually. I never fixed them though, It was an engine out job.
6G72, 330,000km on the clock. Went through half a dozen different oils trying to find a quiet one when I first got it until a mate suggested Fuchs 25W60, which he reckoned quieted down their old 6G72 Triton.
Difference is huge! Before it used to tick like a bastard, now when it's cold it'll tick for 10 seconds then goes away. Brought oil pressure up almost a bar at both idle and under load too.
So before you stuff around just try this stuff. It's good.
