Warn i think have just prove them selves over and over again and you can get parts just about any ware too
I had a bad experience with a Warn winch. 3 times in 8 months it went into the auto sparky to have new solenoids fitted. Sparky reckoned if it needed doing again then maybe look at getting marine solenoids....$$$.
I took it off, sold it and put a PTO on. I know many people don't have probs with electric winches but I did. Mind you - we do do heaps of river crossings etc here.

lol warn just like nissans are FAR from indestructable ... warns suffer consistant solenoid probs ....but on the whole a good reliable winch IF you SERVICE them regularly just like any other piece of kittanz-e wrote:so its not cos there the nissan of the winch world?... you-know... indestuctable?
We are put on this earth for one thing, and one thing only, to die. What you do in the mean time is entirely up to you!

there is a difference, in their construction, warns have proven themeselves in the market place to be robust, and reliable, ironman havnt earnt that reputation yet. if i was buying a new winch, id still go after a warn, seeing as how i have an almost 40yr old high mount on my troll, and it runs like brand new
Maverick. Unlocked on 35's MOTTO: Lock, Stomp & Hold on
If i had an electric winch (which i dont) i would replace the solenoids (weakest, most unreliable item) with 4 of these. Power Hexfets. Power electronics have no moving parts and can supply huge currents now in small packages. Just need to make a custom PCB board though.
These are solid state power HEXFETS that can supply 240 amps continous each. 4 gives you nearly 1000 amps.
