engine to gearbox compatablilty - hilux

ok so i have a surf with a 1kz in it, that i am looking into puttin a 1uz in.

i also have a 2wd hilux(late 80's model i think?) with a 4y in it.

i want to keep the auto in the surf to mate upto the 1uz, and i want to keep the 5spd manual in the ute.

now, if i was to put the 1kz into the ute, would it either: mate upto existing bell housing from the 4y? or: would the 1kz bell housing mate upto the 5spd gearbox?


or would i be better off just finding a manual box that fitted and fab up all new mounts in the lux right from the outset??

Interesting that your ripping out a 1KZ to throw in a 1UZ. Usually its the 2L-TE that gets the heave ho!

I think you'll find that you need an R series box to mate to a 1KZ... Ive heard of guys adapting them to G52's.. for a bit... Then they put in R series boxes

yea unorthadox i know, but i know a bloke who rekons he can get me a 1uz with loom for a tad over a grand! and at that price it would be hard to turn down. id rather the v8 in the 4wd than in the ute, and i like the 1kz so much that i figure it would be worth tryin to put that in
