I'm in need of a couple of GQ CV's as spares for upcoming comps. How good/strong are the ones Hobzee sells... or where could I pick some up that are of reasonable quality??

Just don't want to replace them and then have them self destruct straight away after putting them in.

And before anyones asks... I am VERY limited on budget at the moment, so can't afford to get CAL or Yuri cv's otherwise I'd be going in that direction!! ;)

g'day Brighty,

Our CV's are no stronger or weaker than a genuine cv as far as we can tell.

We don't warrant them for competition use. I don't know how much you can expect out of a $55 CV but out of the hundreds of units we have sold I have never heard of someone being unhappy with their purchase.

The fact that you can buy 3 of ours for the cost of the average second hand genuine cv makes ours fairly attractive.

not knocking your product at all, was basically just after some feedback from guys who've maybe bought and used them in comps/hardcore 4wding and how they've stood up compared to say the standard NTN ones. Or maybe if there are others on the market out there also that would be a decent buy but reasonable quality too.

If you use the front locker sparingly and be careful with the way you drive, you can make them last. Be carefull though, if the bell breaks then the ball bearings and shrapnel can destroy the spline on the end of the axle.

I pit crew for a mate who has a production class gq, and he has broken two cal offroad cv's/axles, one at round 1, one at round 2 of the engel series, and through changing his driving style slightly, and when they use the locker, he has managed to make standard cv's last, without a breakage at ateco and saved a heap of coin at the same time. A cal cv costs $900, that equals 16.36 $55 dollar cvs.

Just a tip, make sure you you get yourself a big magnet on a teloscopic rod, as you will need it to get all the shrapnel out of the knuckle hub, and take heaps of rags, i actually use heavy rubber gloves, because the diff oil gets into the knuckle when the cv lets go, and mixes with razor sharp metal.

i have one on the driver side have not smash it yet been there for about 2years now i run GQ TD4.2 intercooled with 35 in the dry and 36 tsl in the wet with front locker in that time i have smash 2 Lhs one . one of the best $50 i have spent

I would be interested to know where these are manufactured?

I have been told by lots of people since to insist on Japanese aftermarket or genuine, or cough up the coin for Longfeilds.

This was in a turbo diesel 80sreies, fully locked, running 35"muddies. It had seen moderate 4x4 use, some hard use but not super hardcore stuff, over about 18months.
I dont flog the hell out of my truck, tend to mostly crawl stuff if I can.

I didnt bother complaining about it, I enjoy getting out in the bush, my car doesnt get wrapped in cotton wool (not flogged either) stuff breaks, I fix it, thats the way it is. If I can I will look for better replacement parts, no point complaining and getting a free replacement, the first one wasnt up to the task, why replace it with the same?
It also took out a few hundred bucks worth of associated parts when it blew, and did some minor damage to inner axle so I'm not in a hurry for a repeat.
I replaced it with japanese aftermarket, cant remember the brand, wasnt NTN, though it was basically the same price as NTN, roughly $300
I will change out the other side at some time too, hopefully before it breaks. the cost of damaged parts was more than NTN would have cost.

my own experience years ago is to stick to factory cv's. alot of the mock up ones can be very britle. one set lasted me 1 bog hole. drove 150m into a track from home and first bog hole blew both short and longs. 35's stock 4.2 efi. britle axle snaps like the above pic.

cannot comment on hobzees gear as do not know where they are from.

He charged me $19 postage for 2 air pressure switches. These were ordered direct from his shop.

Then I found them on Ebay - on his Ebay shop and was offering free postage.

So how can he charge 2 different amounts for the same item??

This is what I find a rip off.

I know it is only $5.70 for a 500gram postage bag to send anywhere in Australia.

So $19 for something that weighs no more than 50gram is far from correct.

Get where I'm coming from now.

We sell genuine NTN (which is original equipment in the Nissans) GQ & GU Cv's and Axles, for just under $200... delivery is extra.

I also have about 6 cv's ...(no axles)...brand new, never used. We could do a deal on them, ( depends how many you're after)...just pm me.
