another turbo question
another turbo question
i have a garret turbo sitting here that i want to put on my td42 i want to no if its to small. it is a t25 of a skyline. have been searching for a few days now getting info but cant really find anything on this turbo for this motor fit out.
Like i said, it would work, but it depends what you drive and how you drive it. For low RPM work (crawling, poking around forrests etc.) it'd be ok, but for higher RPM/towing or any future power development it'd be a waste of time. Saying that, the flash upgrade Garrett BB units are a T25, so upgrading in the future wouldn't be that painful.
Any numbers on the plate in the centre core of the turbo? Or pull the housings off and measure compressor and turbine wheel sizes.

it'll make boost thats for sure.
being a skyline turbo it will have a T3 flange, get a manifold with a t3 flange on it and fit your turbo. If it doesn't suit the way you drive there plenty of T3 flanged turbos that will fit in its place. A number of them are listed as direct replacement for a skyline, so it would almost just bolt straight on.

300zx turbos are a great turbo for hilux 2.8s. they dont have the push for a 4.2. an australian s15 (98 i think through to 2006 i think) silvia has a t28 on it that is the closest to perfect youll find without getting one made (i.e. dzltec) but they are rare and will prolly cost you just as much as getting one of dzltecs units.

When i was hunting a second hand turbo, i found HEAPS of info on the various factory Nissan units, as well as the various differences they had between year and model (Skylines, Silvias, 300's etc etc). My unit is off a 300ZX single turbo - but i've found it bloody hard to find another, plus they came with a ceramic exhaust turbine which is limited to about 12psi before they self destruct.

A VL/R31...is that a ballbearing unit and what vehicle is it off?
1991 GQ TD42 Safari, 5spd, 4" Lift, 35" shovels, Locked & Loaded.
There were 1-2 people that did, but i didn't have enough coin at the time to get one from the goup buy.
VL = Holden Commodore, 1986->1988. They used a Nissan RB30E/RB30ET 3 litre inline six cylinder.
R31 = Nissan Skyline, 1985->1989. RB30E engine.
The Aussie RB30ET's were a plane bush bearing unit, however there are many, many aftermarket units available. The VG30DET (300ZX single turbo) came in both plane and ball bearing types, however there isn't really any documentation/reference as to when/what/how certain cars had the BB turbo.
The VL (Nissan T3) turbo's come up on eBay often, some fully reco'd, others high-flowed etc. Its just a matter of waiting for the right one. Either that or troll through some of the fullysickboys forum's for sale sections.
Once i get my car tuned, you're more than welcome to come and have a look and test drive.
