Winch for my 80

Was thinkin of puttin a ironman 12000 pound electric winch on the front of my 80. Need opinions on if it will be big enough and if the brand is o.k.

12,000 pound will be more than enough, and unless your looking at winch challenges, or abusing the life out of it every weekend, then it should be fine.

Also consider the tigerz11 winch, seem to be getting allot of very good reports in terms of after sales support.

Yeah I am in the same boat tossing up between the Tigerz11 and Ironman 12000 pound winches.

The winches themselves look exactly the same, wouldn't be surprised if they are made by the same company in China and re-badged.

I too have heard good things about the Tigerz11 compared with the Ironman winch. Will be interesting to see other members reviews.

Yep all true, got mine a couple of weeks ago (Tigerz11) all good, great service Paul the manager, and very happy with the added options and the fitt up, also the price, but mainly the weight differance with the rope was a big influence

G'day guys,
I have heard that the winches all come out of the same place... but the differance is that some companys who distribute their particular winches do little things to set their winch apart from other brands like waterproofing... wireless controlers...better solinoids... and tougher clutches...
dont know if this is true... but it sounds plausible

I've got the 9500pound Ironman winch with the wireless remote and newer solenoid. Works great and drags the 80 up and out of anything. I've used the pulley block couple of times but only coz of the angle when assisting another car up a hill. It's got plenty of grunt even without the pulley block. I've installed the tigerz rope and its been great as well. it's a little tricky to get the hook on but it will fit with some convincing. It's amazing how much weight comes off the front when you don't use wire rope! Not to mention how much easier it is to drag up a hill to a tree or another car. Main thing to remember is give the winch a break, 1 min winching and a min or two off, also gives your batteries a chance to recharge and all is good.

Both those winches are being used up here in FNQ with good reports so either would be fine i recon...
However & goes for all winches really, you should pull the winch off the rig every 12 months or at most 2 years & service it... clean out all grease out of gearing & repack, spray the motor with wd40/inox etc as they will rust & water will get in there..
Or while its new pull it apart & seal it but remember it has to able to breath so water tight is no good, alot of people now putting breathers on their winches...

Do an internet search & do yourself if so inclined otherwise spaek to the 4wd shops etc it might cost about $200 to have it serviced which is worth it considering the shit you go through doing it yourself..
