Help - What's the oil leak in this picture.

Post by junglist »

By chance I looked under my car today and noticed this puddel of oil.

It's greenish in colour but it's not coming from the coolant over flow.

I had my car serviced about a week ago.
It hasn't been leaking before today.
I park in the same place every day.

Recently it has been blowing excessive diesel smoke and strange times.
I was about to take it some where to have the injectors looked at.

I checked the engine oil (yes I know that's not green) and it appears to be over filled.

The level is at least 1cm above the maximum fill line if not a touch more. Approx 20% over filled.

Would this be doing anything bad?

If so I'm shaking my fist at the mechanics.

Thanks for the input. Scott

Looks like coolant. Did they do a radiator service or put new coolant in the radator, change a hose?? They probably spilt coolant over the engine and did not clean it up.

Clean the engine and then see if it is still leaking.

The engine bay looks clean. Its been home for a week I thought it would have dripped by now if they just spilt some.

I'll clean it off now and see if it keep dripping.

No Doubt at all that is coolant.
Have a look around the rear of the engine at the heater hoses as it would appear to be comming down from up there.

Worst case senario is it has a leaking welsh plug behind the flywheel but that is not common with a 2.8diesel.

Yer thats coolant.. check all your hoses like RUFF said.

And probably drain a little bit of oil out if its topped up that much.
Cheers,
Dan.
