manifold leak

Post by mercxr6T »

Hey fellas,
I have just spent over $500 having my zorst manifold machined to stop a leak, but the leak is still there. I am going to try 2 gaskets and a heap of sealing cement to save me having to get the head machined. I just wanted to know if there are any tips that use have that will help me in the process of changing the gaskets. I planned on just trying to pull the manifolds out and try to put the gaskets in, or do they have to come off . Any help would be great.

i reacon you would be, I think my patrols is down on power since the exhaust gasket has gone, but i guess it would depend on if it was before or after the turbo

Well I pulled it apart and now all I need is the gaskets I ordered. Just wondering if it is a must that I use some sort of gasket goo aswell as the 2 gaskets. I only ask because all of the gaskets that I've replaced on the motobikes I've had over the years I never used any goo just the gasket and they all sealed fine. Cheers.

I use locktite 5900 on exhaust manifold gaskets that I think will be a problem, make sure you retemsion the studs after a couple of days.

Another quissie,
When i pulled the top of the air cleaner off there is a turbine looking thing made from alliminium in the top of the air intake. looks to me like it was designed to get the air spinning down faster maybe?. there was another one in the hose that came off the turbz. Are they standard or one of those cheap aftermarket power upgrade ripoffs. Just want to know if they should be in there. Cheers.

I also want to know if I should put some manifold cement between the two gaskets or just on the outsides. Cheers

I use Loctite copper max sealent with new nuts and spring washers!
retension after 200kms

do it quickly, once applied goo! when all put back together let the motor idle, bring it up to running temp, then shut it down and let it set for awhile!

The longer the better!
Dont hold back, Limiter is there for a reason!!!

Cheers for that mate. But I snapped a exhaust stud when I was putting it back together. Got danny from prothread coming tomorrow to get it out. I havent put the aircon bracket back on so he has more room to work with and the two main bolts on the bracket are head bolts. and the bottom 2 are sump bolts I think. So I dont really want to let it run with those out. I used CRC Mainfold cement. To fill the groove in the head and seal the entire gasket area. I started it up for a sec and gave her a little rev and no more leak. WHOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!. So glad its fixed. The CRC Manifold cement hardens when heated. Should be right if I leave it till tomorrow. I Hope. Cheers

This would most likely be a "Hiclone" unit
