Hey all, I noticed in the latest Repco Catalogue they have an Engel fridge freezer, 55L for $799. Heres the ad:
Before i jumped out and bought it, i thought i'd do some research first.
I can't find much info but it may be a chinese nock off,

I would be more than happy to fork out that cash for a genuine article, but for another generic chinese fridge... No. I have seen them cheaper.
Still, I'm happy to be proven wrong. Would love an Engel for that price!

You posted in your title that it is a "fake" Engel, I simply pointed out that if it was, then Repco would be leaving themselves open to a law suit.
If it was indeed built, distributed and badged as an ENGEL without the companies consent, then yes I would consider it a "fake".
The fact that it is advertised as an Engel would lead me to believe that it is distributed and badged by Engel. It very well might be made in China, but as I said previously, have you gone in and looked at one & asked if it comes with an Engel Warranty?
Why don't you give Engel a call since your so passionate about it and talk to them?
And yes the Toyota Lexen is a TOYOTA and the Ford Maverick is still a FORD. They may not have been designed and built by Toyota and Ford, but they were sold BADGED as such and came with warranties from Toyota and Ford.
Don't buy one dad had one and they are the shitest thing made it chewed a 100ahr battery in a day he went and spent the money on a proper engell as did I and they are worth every penny the stuff from Repco are not a real engell, they are knock offs be very careful.
they are not knockoffs, they would be a different quality fridge sold by Engel. Just a different type of fridge to their normal ones. There is no way in hell a company like repco would be selling a knockoff fridge, especially of such a recognised brand name as Engel.

Not sure about quality but as said give them a ring and ask what amps they draw as this will more then likely be pretty high compared to the genuine steel bodied engel...
My engle can run for a full day in the 4by on the 2nd battery and there is still enough power in it to crank the diesel.
Cant help as to the quality of this unit but for the extra money IMOP you would be better to wait and buy one that has been tried and tested for years in the harshest conditions...They have a excellent reputation and better to buy something good and only once.. Nothing worse then taking a chance on something that is still expensive.

Hmmm, strange. Australian 4wd action, edition No 136, has a fridge comparo in it. They list the Engel MT45F Series 2 40l fridge as being made in Thailand.
surely even tho they are made where ever they still carry
the jap electronics ,even if the HQ for engel are in japan!
thats where these other versions fail!like anything.

I've obviously worded this all wrong. I wasn't trying to accuse Repco of selling a knock off, or of rebadging a cheap fridge themselves.
I understand full well that Engel would have consented to the sale of this fridge.
What im trying to clarify is, Is this fridge of ENGEL quality? Is it made by ENGEL using quality japanese parts, as in their usual fridge range?
OR is it a generic chinese fridge, which you can get for $600, Stick on an Engel badge, and add $200 to the price?.... all signs are pointing to yes.
I am also under the impression that when you buy an Engel fridge, you are buying a fridge for life. It should still be keeping my beer cold in 20+ years time.
NOT a fridge that will only outlast its warranty by a few months.
A lot of people will buy a Toyota only because of its reputation of reliability. Is this reliability magically applied to the Lexcen once the toyota badge is stuck on?

i have the 55l travelmate fridge which looks exactly the same , and i just come back from a 4 day camp and running it off a 120 a/h battery , the battery still read 12.3 volts at the end of the camping trip , thats with it running at 0 deg cycling between -2 and +2 deg , and the battery was never topped up during this period

i'm jelous... still have not been on any tracks in wa that i can call real 4wd tracks... Though i'm moving just south of perth and am hoping to find some one to take me out... the clubs i have looked at so far are pretty lame compared to that of NSW brad

yeh but from experience the tracks i like to drive generally safer to have some one there.... i get in too much trouble by myself
