33x12.5.15 on mk triton

Post by mr_ra23 »

ive got a 05 mk triton and put my mates 33x12.5x15 mtz's on it with the landcruiser offset and found they were rubbing on the back of the front guard where the mud flap is..

just wanting to know whether it will make a difference if i use ifs or patrol offset, or whether i am better off doing a 2 inch body lift?

i will be buying tyres and rims soon and thought better to know before i spend the cash.. cheers guys

Different offset wheels wont help, but the body lift should fix the rubbing.

Have you cranked your torsion bars up? If not it may give you enough clearance. If you crank your bars and they still rub when cornering try a narrower tyre (10.5"-11.5")

yeah mate cranked the bars as far as they will go.. i am going to get new bars too i think the stock ones are sagging.

i thought with ifs offset it would move the tyre further into the arch so when at full lock the furthest back corner would clear the guard.... i think....

You don't need to replace the torsion bars. They can be removed and re-indexed by one notch to provide additional lift.

If this is where the tyre is rubbing then a different offset may help - depending on how much interference you have.

I agree with the narrower tyres, too. If you're buying new wheels anyway look at 285/75R16 on Patrol rims - approximately 33" x 11", good selection available in that size, should bring the outside shoulder in by roughly 2.5".

Here is my mk triton with 33x12.5, no body lift, no scrubbing, patrol offset rims is the key.

Mr_ra23, on your 05 triton I'm pretty sure you will have to get 16" rims as the front brakes are bigger than my 99 triton in the pic, well that's what I had to do for my other 03 triton anyway.

I have wound the torsion bars in both, there is no real need to ever replace the standard torsion bars as re-indexing them (pulling the end off, and putting it back on a couple of notches on the spline further) is just like re-tensioning the spring, unless you have, or are planning on fitting a heavy steel bar and winch on the front, in that case there are several of aftermarket ones available.

I have replaced the 50mm lower bump stops in the front suspension with 5mm bits of rubber which has effectively increased my droop travel of the front end beyond what it was from factory, even with the front wound up.

nah i have put my mates 15 inch rims on and they spin fine bout 5 mm clearance from caliper to rim..

i am going to try reindexing the bars this weekend at the moment the cv's are almost level and the bars ar wound as far as they will go so i guessing the bars are sagging..

does anyone know how much ground clearance a stock standard triton has to say the chassis near the front wheel or something so i can tell how much its lifted.. i know this is hard to get but would appreciate it..

Once you go patrol offset your 5mm clearance dissapears.

Hi I'm just wondering if the white triton has had any rear lift besides the body lift? I have a 99 triton with a steel bull bar so i think ill have to put new tortion bars in but not sure whether i should lift the back as it is already pretty high!

Why do you think you need new torsion bars?

Notice the what I'm assuming to be the ARB bumper up front. Ive been debating about ordering one to see if I could fit it on my NG (I think thats the right term not fimiliar w/ those terms here in the States) 91 Triton.

Figure its doable any input from ya mate?

Ive been told new tortion bars will probably be needed because of the steel bullbar. I think im going to try winding them up first with new shocks and see how it goes

I have a steel bullbar & dual batteries on stock torsion bars - have had for about 7 years. No problems.

Im talking what I think to be NG Triton a 91, here in the states we dont have to know the fancy abbreviations. It would be the one thats more square.

TJM pulled outta the states a while back. Doubt I could find one. An ARB would be what I really want. But havent seen one listed for the 87-96 (gen2) Tritons. Thanks for the help mate

As circumference = pi * diameter, measure the circumference and divide by pi
