Harmonic Balancer main bolt

Post by harks36 »

I recently had my timing belt and head gaskets replaced, first trip out it snapped the centre bolt in the crankshaft holding the harmonic balancer on. I was wondering if this bolt should be replaced everytime it is undone. Can anyone help me out with this, I am so glad I got someone else to do the job and have warranty on their work.

Unless your mechanic has X ray vision, he could not see this coming. Crankshaft bolts are not normally replaced after removal.

I just thought that maybe the bolt should be replaced everytime it was undone to ensure that it doesnt fail as it does get put under high tension and high forces, Thanks for the comments, its just weired that it broke within 200km of being fixed
