Too many km's for a turbo?

Hi, I own a 97 toyota hilux 5L 3ltr diesel, I have done 280000km's, I am wondering whether I have done too many km's for a turbo to be installed.. I dont want to risk engine damage, but would like a bit more power.. I wouldnt run much boost or flog it. it does not use much oil also.

MInes about 2k off 300k and I'll be putting a turbo on mine as soon as funds allow

Yeah Iv heard people say that its ok to do it then iv heard the opposite. what turbo you looking at getting and what car you got?

When you put a turbo an a engine you normally decompress it....It might sound dodge but an older engine it all already decompressed... plus it can give you time to get another engine on the stand and build it up to be turbo specific, if that's what your into

mate i'm afraid thats not quite right, yes on a petrol engine you decompress it but a diesel it runs off compression and although it will have high compression higher in the rev range you cant decompress it as at idle it wont run properly.

Maybe possible a little on a bigger motor but not on a little 4cyl running relatively low boost..

My hilux 2.8 (3L and 5L basically same engine) had over 200 on it when i turbo'd it and I sold it with over 450 on it and it was still going strong. I ran max 9lb boost.

Diesel is a different game and my knowledge come mainly from petrol that said whats the difference in a turbo and no turbo diesel engine? Apart from that fact that he will have to change the pump settings to give it a more juice.......

was going to go a factory setup, mine's a 2.4D

mine has 310,000 k's on it 2.8 diesel. was turboed about 240,000 i think.

running 10-11psi.

For the small increase in the likely hood of the engine blowing up i'd turbo it if you plan on keeping it for a while
