Turning a 2H into 12Ht
Can you rebuild a 2H to be similar to a 12HT internally.
I know the pistons are different, along with pre heat systems being different plus the 12HT has extra oild galleries but the bottom ends are basically the same so all the work is up top.
I know everyone is going to say go out and buy a 12HT but they are getting hard to get and expensive. Average price I've found is $8500.
So basically I want to have my old 2H rebulit to handle a turbo as well as a 12HT.

For a start, 12ht is direct injection.
Secondly, your 2H will never be as good on fuel or output the horses a 12ht will with the same amount of work.
If i were you, i'd save and go the 12ht, i speak from lots of experience.
The 2H will end up a disappointment after all the money spent when a factory 12ht blows you off at the lights.
My old 12ht running 14psi boost back in 06, kicked the pants off a brand new 06 model muster ute, he wasnt happy let me tell you!

Worth buying just to sit in the shed till ya get the money to fix it if ya ask me.

you can build it to handle a turbo and make decent power, but it'll cost you, mine ran over $10,000 all said... Wish I had started with a 12H-t, but alas same problem as you $$$....
If I did it again i'd go 12h-t straight up.
What about 1hd-t, already turboed, no need fr rebuild in the $7k-$9k vicinity and very good motors.

Tetanus rolling on 37's
crank, bores, pistons, rings, valves, valve springs, cam, intake 3" all the way, mandrel, 3" mandrel exhaust and so on. I plan to fit the 12HT into a 1989 HJ 75 series landcruiser and from reading different threads on here the 12HT seems to be the best engine to simpily bolt straight in.
I was thinking of turboing the 2H but want to know if its possible to build a 2H as strong internally as the 12HT. But from the replies I have received I am going to spend alot of money trying to re invent the wheel.
Have found a 12HT in wreckers for $5500 with 240000km on the clock. Anyone think this is a good deal or over priced?

I fitted a switzer turbo to a mates 60 series 2H and it hauls arse. Had 320000kays on it.
Remember some days your the pigeon and other days your the statue
Nothing wrong with a Turbo on a 2H i've had that combo numerous times my current 60 has one as well goes great.
If your engine is in good nick fit a turbo going to cost you lots of $$$ to buy 12HT and could be up for $$$ in a refesh, new bearings, maybe pistons, rebuilding the turbo etc
My current 60 has 104hp at the wheels which was 58% more power then pre turbo makes big difference but if you don't think that would be enough go the 12HT
