im looking at swapping to rear disks on my 61 cruiser just wondering if any one has put pre 94 80'series rear disks on to a 60 series with drums and how they went about it , if it all bolts up easily ?? or at all . ive been told that 80s rear hubs will go on a 60 so i was just wondering if the whole rear brake setup will also bolt on?
if not would it be easier to just put a whole 80'series rear diff in ??only thing being is i,ve got factory cable lockers would the center still fit the 80 housing and axles ??
any help appreciated gotta get this sorted in the next few days as the drums are shagged and i dont want to do it twice .

I wish they were a straight bolt up, i would have already done it.
I think you have to machine a mm or 2 off the inside of the 80 hub to fit a 60 from what ive been told and then buy an adaptor for the caliper.
As for the 80 diff they are a bit wider so if you went that way, u would have to run wheel spacers on the front to have the same wheel track.
You locker centre will fit the 80 housing but youll have to run the 80 axles.
I was thinking of doing this myself while i was doing my spring over, i had to weld new perches on anyways.
Shoulda but didnt
I did hear of a bloke years ago that ran subaru discs and calipers on the back and reckoned it was an easy fit?????

Re: 80 disc on a 60
Theres a guy on here (Roctoy ?) who makes the bracket to bolt subaru front calipers (which have a handbrake lever) to hilux housings.brendan rooke wrote:I wish they were a straight bolt up, i would have already done it.

You then use a front GU disc and you have rear discs with handbrake.
Dont know if he does a 60 series bracket, but you could always make your own bracket up ?
The 80 series gear definantly will not bolt up.

well after spending a few hours at the wrecking yard this morning ive come to the conclusion that i am going to use 80 hubs -75 disks and possibly calipers and make a bracket for the caliper ,should hopefully have it done in the next couple of nights.
brendan what do you mean about machining the hubs ?? ,do you have any photos or measurements ,from what ive seen today the only difference between the hubs is that the 80 hubs stud flange sits further out .

I got a whole kit for tailshaft handbrake with rotor, caliper and handbrake cable and suit 60 series, for $400. Rotor is drilled to suit 4 and 5 speed tailshafts.WALKS wrote:disks are fitted now just need to sort tailshaft hand brake.
anyone know what would be the minimum size for the disk to make it work properly ? was thinking bout 6-8" and using a small mechanical caliper off of a go-cart or something similar .
hands and mums dont count!!!
