Dual fuel turbo 4.2 question

Post by GAS-747 »

I currently have a dual fuel carby TB42 and want to turbo it.
I want to keep both fuel systems though and was wondering if I convert over to the standard EFI hardware would it cope with a T04E on 6-8psi? I really dont want to upgrade the EFI components as well as the LPG stuff so was hoping to use a 2 stage boost controller and tune the car for 6-8psi for petrol use & 10-12psi when on gas. Would this work or would the standard EFI gear not supply enough fuel to compensate?

Also would I be better off with a T28 instead?

Any help appreciated!

where do you want boost low down or high up in your rpm.. before you go choosing massive turbos..

the t04es are generally a bigger turbo.. not going to go right into it il be here all day.. but will spool up later maybe a gt2876 might be better but also gt30xx with .82 would be ok..

if you go too big a turbo even if it spools up quick might not be as efficient with out large amounts of boost..

so if you want low down power gt28

high power gt30.. maybe a t04e i cant remember the specs on them but i there journal bearing turbos.. pretty beefy

you could always try asking nutter engineering ( think thats his name here) he works with gas turbo setups alot..

going down this path also.

Have most of the efi stuff here ready.

Dont know what gas system you currently have, but i have got an impco 300a setup.

This means ill have to change it over to suit the efi, as the 300a doesnt suit.

from what ive read, the std efi ecu and injectors will work ok up till somewhere around 6-8 psi, so you should be fine.

at worst you may need to up the injectors and get the ecu remapped later on.

The T04E is pretty small (.50 front, .63 rear & 57 trim).
Was a perfect combo on my old RB30 & is the same as what Nutter runs on his. I do hear you though and maybe the T28 would be better as I am only wanting more down low (under 120km) and a bit more torque for towing or offroad duties...

Sorry guys, the standard efi wont work as it will not retard the timing as boost increases,
the standard injectors will run out of fuel real quick mine were topped out around 100rwkw,
and then the standard fuel pump in the tank couldnt supply enough.

I got a Haltech 6x to control timing etc,
and 550cc Skyline injectors
and walbro 500hp fuel pump.

Then you have the same issues with the lpg, I had spent enough to get the petrol issues sorted so I lost the gas.

Straight gas can be easier but you still have to retard the timing somehow, even at 6pound. or it will ping.

Ignitions not a prob. If I go ahead I will use a Crane hi-6 CDI, LX92 coil & a timing retard controller like I did my last conversion (only that was straight gas). My main concern was whether the standard gear will supply enough fuel or not and it looks like it wont :(

Ok then another question...
What about a boost refrenced holley & impco 425 (blo thru or draw thru LPG hat)????
