You could but it's not worth the cost or effort.
if you have a maual directional control valve (like thrashalux) you can vary the retrieve speed by moving the lever a small or larger amount.

hydraulic v pto winch.
Moderators: toaddog, Elmo, DUDELUX
I have just about finished installing the Runva 10,000lb winch on my patrol.
Just need to fix a oil cooler that a fitting fell off and add a normally open valve for when winching to cut out the power steering.
But I am just running of the standard power steering pump at this stage that I will spin a little faster to get some extra rope speed.
I am not after comp. speed though, just the ability to winch all day if I need to.

Need a bigger shed...
Hi again, i ended up getting a pto winch off a 60 series for $500 for the whole thing, and it had never been used. did'nt quite fit perfectly so i did afew mods, shortened the drive shaft, shortened the bullbar mounts (better aproch angle) put a hole through the radiator for the drive shaft ( if i mounted it lower, to clear the steering arms/axles and stuff it'd near on drag on the ground)
I'm glad i went with the pto, it pulls faster and stronger for longer than my brother inlaws hydraulic winch, i just have to get realy bogged so i can try it out for real.
ps, anyone got any ideas why its noisy in the higher gears, 3rd to 5th????
is it because the gears for the pto are straight cut????
(I took heaps of photos while fitting it if anyone wants.)
