Bilstein shocks

Post by Ashy »

Any thoughts on these, can get them delivered to Aussie for under $450 AUD. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... OTORS:1123 The shocks are $280 US + $155 US delivery. Just a bit worried about the valving, do you think that they would suit Aussie conditions. A set of Billies here are close to a grand.

Well for one thing they're for an IFS truck, it's 05-09 so unless you have IFS don't bother (but I assume you do and already knew this).

Toyota Tacoma and Hilux are the same thing basically. Valving is just to do with the load and amount of movement they're subjected to isn't it? If so, don't quote me on this, but I guess you wouldn't have any problems?

valving is set to control the spring effectivly. It needs to be set to correctly control the sprung and un sprung weight of the vehicle effectivly on both the compression and rebound stroke. the wrong valving will lead to poor handling and braking, resulting in unsafe cornering and longer stopping distances.

just coz it fits, doesn't mean it will do the job
;)

So - So true..... but so frequently ignored.

"Clever me.......I got em cheap off a "xyz" and they bolted straight in ! " - rides and handles like a complete pig - but who's going to admit that ?
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

My mate just bought these from the states the other week for his 05 hilux.

He put them on with 50mm lovels coils, stock rear springs. Car sits 10mm higher in the front, bullbar should level it.

They are height adjustable, but if using lifted springs run the circlip at the bottom.

They ride fantastic, bilstein are high quality gear.
The only thing you have to make sure is the rear of the ones in the link are for a wagon, they have a pin/eye.

The rear of a hilux is eye/eye.

If your going to buy the get them from ebay US, Locktup has them but they want $580 or so for the front, which is a rip off seeing you can buy front and rear from the states for around $500 to your door in a week.

That is for a pair of universal shocks.

If you look under hilux 05+, the front struts are $540 shipped.

So taking a guess, $540 for the front, $399 for the rear - $939 all up.

Sounds like a rip off to me. But if you want to pay $400 odd to have someone do something you can do in 5min yourself - good for you.
