Holden V8 5L into 2.8L Diesel Hilux. ANY TIPS?
Hi, I have complete V8 5L VR Commodore auto and a complete 90 Hilux 4wd with blown 2.8L Diesel motor, manual.
Gunna purchase a conversion kit from Dellow Automotive in Sydney to suit the G52 hilux gearbox for $950+gst. This conversion kit comes with:
1. Cast alloy bellhousing to suit G52.
2. Pilot Bush
3. Pivot Ball
4. Clutch Fork n clip
5. Thrust race n carrier
6. Clutch Plate 10"
7. Push Rod
8. Engine Mount brackets
Is there anything else that that i may need to purchase for a successful conversion?
Any Tips to help steer me in the right direction?
E.g What Radiator do i use?
What Fuel Tank do i use?
What happens with the Master Cylinder & Slave Cylinder?
Will the Flywheel on the V8 suit the clutch/pressure plate?
Will the sump hit diff/steering?
Etc.
Any suggestions will be appreciated! Cheers.

Plenty of info here,

The G52 will not last long, nor will the standard rear diff.
Get a Hilux V6 radiator recored to 4 core with 38mm inlet and outlet.
But all the info you need is on the forum I posted.
Cheers
EDIT: Also it is a matter of opinion but the Marks gear is better IMO, but don't buy everything they try to sell you, some of it you are better of organising elsewhere.

Better to get rid of the g52 and buy a R151 gear box from the 1kzte (3.0L td hilux) or use a toyota dyna gearbox...
Weather you do it now or later, either way if you intend on keeping the truck for a while and driving it with the injected 5liter you WILL blow the box...
The g52 box are a weak box behind the 2.8D motor with a turbo, let alone going from 35 rear wheel KW (standard 2.8) to 185 RWKW from the commodore motor....
Better to spend more money once then to spend twice as much later by replacing weak box's...
Just my opinion...

3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear
I just did a 253 conversion. I bought a brand new landcruiser radiator. 4 core, same width as hilux, so no need to modify toe support panel, but got the side plates changed over, and the bottom outlet put on other side. 550 all up and works brilliant. one thing i had to do was extend the bottom gusset plates as the landcruiser radiator is about 3" longer.

Marks transfer case adaptors are a bucket of poo.
2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
I haven't used one of those, both times I used an R150F with chain drive transfer.ferrit wrote:Struth wrote:Plenty of info here,

Their bellhousings and engine mount kits shit all over some of the other stuff.
This is what Dellows call an engine mount kit,
Their bellhousing was rough as and didn't even come with a lower cover or holes in the casting for a lower cover, there was also no way the clutch fork boot was ever going to fit correctly.
The guy who bought this gear sent it back and bought marks gear, he is so much more pleased with the quality of the marks gear.
The marks engine mount kit is a much better though out scenario, it welds to the chassis attachment where the old V6 or 4cyl mounts get cut off and the actual mounts on the engine come with the kit.
I have not seen CRS gear so can't comment on that.
Cheers
Radiator i used was a 4 core cruser, had to change top pipe to the other side. Thats it, bolted straight in. fits down between the chassis. I have the V8efi in a 97 lux, not sure if chassis are the same. The only thing i had to weld was the sump and it was better for me to use a red 253 sump to start with.

Cheers lads, for the heads up!
So it seems the V6 4runner box is the way to go. Whats the difference between the R150F & R151F? Which is more suitable? Will i have dramas with change in length of box? Will i have to move the box back to make room for fan/radiator? Will the cross member line up?
Diff's best to use are landcruiser 60 series it seems hands down.
Radiator, either V6 4runner or a landcruiser(Which one bolts straight up LFONZ?).
If them pics from dellows are anything to go by. I'll definetly be lookin somewhere else. Marks adaptors seems to be the go. Anyone used other conversion kits & was happy?
Fuel Tank? Can i use existing tank flush it out & add a surge tank as well? OR could i use the VR Commodore tank that i got with the car?
Sump? will it clear? or do i need to change to 253 sump or a custom job like you 'Struth'?
Cheers!

also the clutch master cyl and the handbrake roller housing will come very close
you use the manual bits from a v6 4runner it has a remote master cyl and the handbrake assembly goes inside the firewall
i have a set for sale if interested

I went from 4.56 back to 4.3 after the conversion and 1st and 2nd gear still disappear in a flash, so it doesn't really get a head of steam up until 3rd.LFONZ wrote:Struth what diff ratos u running??? I got 4.5ish and need to pull it back.
I am using the marks master kit (seems good) with a 4y or 3y slave cyl and fork (which was f&$#n hard to find)
Going 4:88s with 35s soon, which should be very close to the 4.3s with 31s.
The 4.3s work well with 33s.
Cheers
Not sure on gear driven but the chain driven will handle big horsepower, and a few club members havegear driven behind 308s with no dramas.Spartacus wrote:similar Q:

Holden V8 5L into 2.8L Diesel Hilux. ANY TIPS?
Pickin up the R150f gearbox from a V6 4 runner on tuesdi.
Is there anything else worth gettin from the wreck that may be useful or handy to use with the conversion? E.g. driveshafts, crossmember etc.

Your 4Cyl driveshafts and xmember should be fine for this conversion.YSO81G wrote:Pickin up the R150f gearbox from a V6 4 runner on tuesdi.

Probably not as much as them but should handle it ok i'm looking at running the 23spline gears in my case and just get the auto adapter to suit that and a longfield output shaft to take care of that end all should be goodSpartacus wrote:similar Q:

Holden V8 5L into 2.8L Diesel Hilux. ANY TIPS?
Picked up R150F Gearbox & Transfer. Now on the hunt for the conversion kit. My 3 options are Marks Adaptors, CRS & Dellows. Before i ring these places to get a bit better of an understanding with what parts i will need. I wouldn't mind a bit of a heads up, so i dont get conned into something by a salesman. I just wanna buy what i need!
Just to refresh ya memories. I'm puting a V8 injected 5L from a VR commodore into a Hilux LN106 2.8 Diesel, leaf spring, single cab.
What do you think will be the necessities or exactly what will i need?
Hope ya's can help! Cheers from Matt.

Have run my T700 and gear driven case with 4.7s behing my 304 for about 18 months-2years now, no dramas at all. And yes it cops MUCH abuse....Spartacus wrote:similar Q:
