difference between gq and gu rear diffs and housings?

Post by hiluxmad »

is there any differences?
in particular do the gu rears have a handbrake on them?
or is it on the transfer as on GQ?
otherwise will it bolt up?
could you just use the backing plates etc on gq housing?

GU diffs are about 40mm wider.
Diffs out of 4.8 litre Patrols have hand brake on the axle, all other models have them on the back of the gearbox.
There are also 2 different size GU rear diffs, the bigger diffs were fitted to manual 3l, 4.5l and 4.8l. Small diffs are same size as GQ diffs, just wider.

would the backing plates and calipers etc from a 4.8 patrol rear bolt to a gq housing?

using gq diffs in a conversion and dont have a handbrake at this stage just trying to work out a way of doing it.
