Removing springover in 40? whats involved?

Post by dan_2818 »

Been looking for an old 40 for a toy and ive found one, Its cheap, in ok condition but the only problem is that its been sprungover.
Its got no engineering or rego.

Now I dont really want another lifted 4wd, too much work to get blueslip, so i was thinking of removing the springover. Whats involved in this?

Will look at the car this week so will have more info then.

Thanks, Dan

I've got a disc brake front diff for sale. you could buy that and chuck it under. Save you fuckn around with cutting and welding spring perches. And you'd have disc brakes!

it all depends on how the spring over has been done.

often the knuckles are cut off the axle tubes, rotated, and rewelded. shock mounts may have been moved, and steering is probably hi-steer or similar.

it's much easier to just get another housing for each end and steering arms from someone, and throw the diffs/axles/swivel hubs etc onto the standard housing.

also check your tailshaft length. It will most likely be too long if you convert back to spring under.

Two good offers there.. Aus dog or Hotlux00... consider going the disc brake front option and pick up a rear full floater rear and re kit them both and you're sweet.... :D
Old 40's last forever as long as you keep fixing the buggers...
