Vitara Manual to Auto? rear Discs?
Vitara Manual to Auto? rear Discs?
G'day all.
The time has come to retire my lwb sierra Frog.
(My fault not Frog's)
I am chasing a LWB Vitara, 91 to 95 auto and power steer.
I find a lot of manuals in my price range (cheap).
If I buy a manual, is fitting an auto a sensible possibility?
If I get a swb that don't have power steer, are power steerings bolt on, as I could use the sierras p/steering on the vit?
It is from a vitara.
(Will most likely break down Frog and sell in bits, as I could make more money, which will be used to lift and lock the vit.)
Also could I use my rear disc conversion from sierra to the vitara?
Thanks all.

Def try get the 1.6MPFI version with the 4spd if u dont find a v6 one.
Autos are between 400-1000 2nd hand, think muggins still has my old one somewhere in a project i believe.
From what i beleive the 16v efi didnt come in the SWBs till later. the LWBs got them first.
power steer should bolt up fine.

Maintaining a hard core older vehicle is getting too much for me to cope with.
Financially and health wise.
I getting soft, and I am doing more touring.
Hard core tracks are getting rarer and further away.
Blame it on a mid life crisis, need a new project.

The powersteering will bolt in but the steering shaft is shorter in a p/steered vitara than a not p/s one .
For the 16v's ( the only ones you really want ) I have been told all the engine ecu's all have the required output for the auto but may not have the wires in the loom . There are two wires from the ecu to the auto , throttle position and water temp , robbing the pins out of another loom and plugging them in is ment to do the trick . I have not done this thou so guess you will find out if you go down that track .
The rear disc's will not fit onto a vitara diff , the axle retainer bolt pattern is different as they have much bigger wheel bearings , also the end of the axle has a different center bore . Nothing a kit can't fix .
A lightly tricked up lwb vitara with a steel from diff ( or even just a head ) would make a nice tourer I think .
Cheers

if you can chriss, try get an auto to start with. to convert you will need tailshafts, t-bar, cluster for lights, and place a new pin in the ecu harness. can be done but its not an easy job. will keep my ears peeled for a vit for ya.
lwb 1.6efi,4sp auto,f&r airlockers,dual t/cases.custom coils.builder of ROAD LEGAL custom suzukis...and other stuff.
