brake light/tail light dramas. Got me stumped

Post by pongo »

OK, here goes.

When parker switch is on the tail lights are earthing via the brake light wire but not blowing fuses, etc. When i put the brake lights on when lights are on all it does is still light the tail light. If i rotate the globe 180 degrees it still only lights up the tail lights and not the brake lights. There is continuity between brake wire and ground. ( ground on light assembly dissconnected and assembly not on veichle .

It think its in the wiring somewhere, But i can understand why its not blowing fuses/globes or lighting up the brake light no matter which way the light contacts are facing.

THis is about the last hurdle for rego.

I have unplugged front lights, switches and is still there. Im pretty sure the brake circuit works only on the after market lights in the window and not at the original lights. Ill update when i check.

Ya reckon its just 2 wires rubbing or something from the "gods must be crazy". got me a bit stumped and confused. ill try and recheck what its doing and reconfirm. Just after some ideas for a starting point.

Its a MQ/K patrol if it makes any difference

Thanks

Sounds like it is just a crook earth. Try running a wire temporarily from the earth wire back to the battery. If this fixes it, bypass the original earth circuit, and put a new one in, back to the body.

all good for now anywayz. A few bits of dodgy wiring. I ran additional earths from the back of the light housings to the body while i was at it , just in case,

It was a combination of a few different things. Definatly pays sometimes to call FUBAR and worry about it again in a day or 2.

a couple of days away from a blue slip i hope.
