gearbox or diff whine?

Post by shw337 »

hey guys for a while now i have had a whine coming in from about 80k/hr just on throttle, accellerate harder or back off or clutch coast and it goes away only there when on cruising throttle. happenes in 4th n 5th gear.

wats it sound like to you guys?
my idea is either a bearing in the box or the dif?

Hey fella,

I've had the similar noise, And in the similar situation.
Dad told me it was the gear box and it was nearly out.
But I found out this had happened,

Pinion bearing was shot as shot could be, Front seals were shot.
Pinion had chunks out most of the cogs.
But a week or so before I pulled it out the noise started getting worse, I haven't had a drive since I've put the new centre in but im hoping the noises are alot better.
