TD42T Auto Trans I need help

Post by tmbrwlf »

Hi guys I have been reading alot of stuff in these forums the past couple days, and there seems to alot of very friendly and helpful people here. This seems to be the only place I can find any info on these motors and drive lines, and I really Need Help. Heres my problem, I have a 94 TD42T with an auto Trans, it is in a UD 1400, and has an o/d button on the shifter. The motor works awsome, lots of power, but when I am trying to get up to speed the trans keeps wanting to drop a gear, which in turn limits my speed, and will not upshift again. Tops me out between 50 and 60 kilometers an hour. I have tried with the o/d on, and off, and it doesn't make a difference either way. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much in advance

im not a auto trans guru BUT to my very limited knowledge because they are computer operated you at the best can only give it a service/flush/filter etc over here in nz i get my same year and motor as yours done by a auto trans dude who has all the high tech plug it in diagnostic stuff for your AUTO COMPUTER etc and will sort it for you im sure, money well spent considering the cost off a rebuild, just my 2cents worth

Thank you very nuch for your reply. we have tried the flush, filter thing with no change. I am having a hard time so far finding anyone close to where I am in Canada, that has a computer reader or program for this truck, but i am still trying. And thank you again for your reply.

Probably not it, but on Toyota's sometimes they can play up a bit if the kickdown cable is loose, maybe try kickdown cable, also is there a power button that holds it in gears longer, thats not jammed on electronically or something??

The cable seems to be fine, and yes it seems to be getting lockup fine. Everything seems to be very normal except, my speed tops out at about 60 kmh, and if i hold it to the floor, it down shifts, and will not up shift again unless i back way off the fuel

i am looking, trying to find someone with a computer now. I will let you all know my findings when I find someone. As for the rebuild, I have alot of experience with domestic vehicles, and don't believe a rebuild is neseccary. I will keep you updated on my fidings.

Also worth a look at the TPS on the IP also. Usually a replacement item is required if it hasnt been mucked around with. Take to auto trans guy to make sure its working ok or maybe someone smarter than I here knows the correct way to adjust them.
