37s on a 4runner.

Post by dans-paj92 »

Hey all,
I ran a set of 37inch boggers that were new on my 4runner yesterday for my 4wd custom action photoshoot.
The tyres scrubbed at the front at full compression with the wheel straight.
This was because it was hitting the back of the guards.
Where do I cut the back of the guard to keep running 37s?
its a 1984 4runner.
Cheers
Dan

hey bud, how was it?? do you have any pics for us yet??
my guess is gently massage the back of the guard from the bottom to about a few inches up, surely your neighbour would be able to tell you exactly.

basically the guard is bashed until it sits flush to where the cab starts.
Which is the floor pan of the cab.
So i'm not kidding.
Or is it just easier to move the diff forward?

If the gen 1 is similar to the gen 2, then the body mount will need to be moved back to do what you want ...... or move the diff forward.

hey dougster,
yeah the bodymount is the same for gen1 and gen2 4runners as it is also the same as the LN65 lux's.
Do I just buy diff relocation plates?
haha the tyres aren't mine yet, they were borrowed

Diff forward... you cant take that much outta the floor mines knocked back so my accelerator pedal cant move as far anymore  (from previous owners though.)

So easy fix RUF but i cant imagine yours climbs too well with 37's i think you have a few other issues to consider first (suspension/steering/gearing) then clearance, and you'll probably find if the rear tucks up the tyre will get stuck aswell i had that with 36' pedes on mine but they cleared in the front.

the diff needs to come forward. this will solve ur clearance issues. I had 37's on my old lux with the diff 3" forward due to my rears up front. would fully flex out 12" shocks without scrubbing

Didn't know there was chassis bump stops they're normally on the springs
Your half way there if the back doesnt scrub mine scrubs 35's when they're right up in the guards.
When you do RUF and crossover it should clear the 37's its worth setting it up for those tyre's tho they're
And mate i'm out almost every day lately so let me know when your headin out next.
