Actually the original suspension mount is still used to mount the suspension!!!
Likewise if you create a 5-link setup where the lowers use the OE mounts.

On a more serious note, not that I'm competing, but it does seem strange that you cant use factory ETC which leaves vehicles effectively with open diffs, where you can use factory LSD's. I have no idea who made the rules or what they drive, but I'm guessing the Nissan trials rule freedoms and restrictions will inadvertently produce some very strong results from Nissan Patrols in particular for Tough Tourers and not have them as far behind in Tourers.
There will be probably no one who had anything to do with the rules competing in Tuff Tourer and only made a small handfull in touring and the club has a massive range of cars. not all patrols ;)

The event is not going to be hard. Its only a small step up from son of trials. Its all about fun, you don't need lockers etc. The winner 2 years ago at Son of Trials had open diffs front and rear and worn out 32 inch muddies and most of the tracks will be similiar to that year

nissan trials

Post by teambullet »

This has prob been discused already but the engine mods allowed at trials seems to be confusing, lot of people at willowglen were talking the 10% on engine size.....From what i understood a 4cyl could only be replaced with a 4, 6-6 etc..... So in my case i had a 4 now a 6, not able to compete.
What if a 6 cyl 4.2 diesel was replaced with a 4.2 v8?

You're right Slunnie.

If I were to enter my 80, it would be in Touring with lockers disconnected, which means useless open diffs. Not much fun I'm afraid, so still deciding whether to go or not.

Same rules apply as per Nissan trials modified class. So no V6/V8 conversions.

How did I know you'd say that :D

Yeah, I'll probably be there, obviously turns better without lockers, so my advantage me thinks ;)

Ok, can see some confusion over a diesel/petrol swap, but what if it's a 4.2 petrol straight six swapped for a 4.2L V8? No capacity change.... (yeah, I know, why bother, but hey, somebody else asked before me :? )

Please help to clarify???

Post by Grizzly Bear »

Hi all,
Cameron here from AWDC. Just wanted to clarify - I have a zook with rover diffs and 36 tyres that have worn to 35 size. I have lockers and gears (which obviously can be turned on or not if that is in the rules). Can this type of vehicle enter these new Nissan trials.
And how about my mankini in the mud? ;)
Thanks Cam
Why is it that everything I love costs so much money !!!!

The mankini puts you out!!!

Your car would fit in to open class at nissan trials which means its to modified to enter.

It was ment to be a small step up from son of trials because the club couldn't run the real nissan trials this year!! There was no chance of building tracks to suit the tuff stuff.

Hopefully the really nissan trials will be back

you know, im amazed with this thread. its 7 pages long with 3 press releases at the start stating that its not nissan trials as it would normally be(that is a hardcore style event), there are numerous posts from lots of people(myself being one) that have said its 1 step up from son of trials, being targetted at daily driven 4bs, not a hardcore comp targetted at trailered in comp trucks.
but still people dont understand, even after 7 pages.
im upset that the sids trek was rained out as i wouldve loved to enter the lux in this classic trials. sounds like it wouldve been a fun weekend.
would it be possible to run son of trials, and classic trials as well as hardcore trials next year, as id love the chance to enter son of trials. running 31s, then enter classic trials running 35s, then watch hardcore trials.

ps. any pics from the weekend??

Classic Trials has been Run and Won.

Congrats to those who shared in close to $10,000 worth of prizes. And of course thanks to the sponsors who so actively supported the event.

Thanks to all those who came along and participated in the spirit of the Classic Trials. As has been said before it was always intended to be some fun and we sure had fun, I hope you guys did too.

We have had a bit of feedback about a variety of things in relation to the event and we will be taking that on board at our wrap up meeting in a couple of weeks to see what can be done to improve things.

I noticed another thread has been started for the Son of Trials. We will post updates on that event in there. SoT will be held the last weekend of February (27th/28th).

Cheers
Brad
