1UZ-FE toyota V8 in to Hilux
Moderators: toaddog, Elmo, DUDELUX
Go to www.performanceforums.com, and do a search on a user named "v8hilux" (might have to try caps). he is in Canberre from memory, and has one in an LN/RN106 dual cab. It manual too. Runs a Motec M48 ecu, and i THINK an R151 box, adapted to the gear driven transfer, not the chain drive one. You can also try Quick Fit Motorsports in Hornsby, phone number 9476 2877. they have done a number of 1UZ/Hilux swaps, both manual and auto, and 2WD/4WD. They can also help you out with wiring looms and diagrams.
Hope this helps

Definately needs the supercharger to give it some grunt.
All this work for 150HP is a waste of time. 4.7 would be a little better and its the same physical size.
Guts, if you thinking of doing this look at the fan on this conversion. I doubt this set up will handle hot Oz conditions very well let alone slow wheeling etc.

Look through here http://lextreme.com/forum/index.php its all about lexus V8`s
i know the guys at ORI have done a few with the hilux 5 speed and gear case, standard radiator plus 1 additional fan.
the problem they faced was the oil filter fouling the frame rail, so bargain for a remote oil filter kit and there are 3 or so different exhaust manifolds. Pretty sure you will need the lexus sedan manifolds as they fit snug to the block (allowing clearance for the hilux steering shaft)
pretty gutless i agree, but weigh fark all and can be supercharged relatively cheaply for bucket loads more kw
above all, they're cheap, ive seen 4L motors with 120000km for $1600 with loom, beats a heavy chev iron lump with carby

I knew about the oil filter but haven`t read anything about the exhaust but the way I am looking at it is that others have done it so I`m shore I can to
As for being "gutless" I think just the starter motor off the 1UZ-FE will have more horse power than a 2.8 even with a turbo.
Wendle, give them my email addy or me their`s. Plus later in the year I might do a simpal trip with brindy club in our 80, so let me know if something comes up close around Canberra around say june, july or august sometime.

The oil filter is already remote, just bargain in some new lines and put it where you want it
hands and mums dont count!!!

I would disagree on the gutlus bit, the stock computer does nothing but bad things for these engines, mine will be running after market engine managment and custom headers, good for approx 360hp at the fly, which is plenty in a hilux. with the aftermarket computer these engines rev hard and fast and have plenty of torque from just over 1000 rpm
$1000, 27,000km with auto and wiring loom

we have done a few of these and i can tell you that there isnt much to gain from putting in an aftermarket computer. Its probably a bit neater but the performance gain is nothing. And only computers over $2000 will be able to run it as well as factory, after many hours setting them up. Not all engines have a remote oil filter factory some have the filter right at the front so you need an aftermarket remote setup. You would be suprised at howm many different versions of this engine we have come accross. At least 5 different ones so far.

1UZ's only have about 255 HP standard, I find it hard to believe you will get 105 HP just from headers and aftermarket ECU.

Wolf 3D Version 4
My girl friends dad has a 1UZ-FE in his 93 GQ Patrol, his puts out 300hp at the fly, stock exhaust manifolds, and his computer Wolf V4 was setup for effiency not full out power, i will trick mine even more because i wont be daily driving it.
If that doesn't interest me twin throttle bodies could be on the cards too, then maybe twin turbos

BUBS,
I want to check out how your convo is going, I want to do that swap into a Soft Top Middy Cruiser - FJ73 Series... It is light as hell, and I think it would be good. I have seen the headers that hug the engine, they do look restrictive...
Does anybody know what G/Box my truck would have (3F Petrol - 5 Speed) I have heard that many different codes, I got no idea...
I haven't found anywhere that will make the adaptor for my G/Box yet, unless another box will bolt up to the rest of the gear with out mods... Project like this, the less mods the better...
I have heard, that with a little port work, these engine can crap all over a modded Holden V8, is this true...
I have a mate selling a Holden VR Senator Engine for about $2500, but I can get the 1UZ for about $1300 - Dilemma, no G/Box adaptors yet...
Any help and info would be appreciated...
