Hilux Injector pump

Post by Leighroy1984 »

Hey all need help. I have just replaced my leaking injector pump on my 1984 hilux 2L with another pump from one of my old motors that had a shagged bearing. Now the problem is i cant get full power out of the motor and it is blowing heaps more smoke. I took extra speical care when putting the new timming belt on to make sure that all the timming marks lined up. Then re checked and then re checked again. Can anyone give me any clues to where I should start first :?:

Did you turn your motor over twice and check your timing again

Yeah twice then twice again then twice again. It revs fine with no load buts as soon as it has load it struggles.

have you checked the timing mark on the side of the injector pump itself?

where the injector pump bolts to the engine, there is a line on the timing belt and one on the injector pump. Loosen the injector pump rotate it till these line up and it should run a little better. You will probably need a mechanic's mirror to see it properly, it is kinda hard to see but if you have a spare engine have a look and you will see what i am talking about

you need a special tool to properly set the pump timing. the marks on the side are just a reference and the "right" timing can be several degrees either way of the mark. it is probably worth taking it to a shop and getting the timing set, will only cost half - 1 hour labour depending on the accesability of the pump.
