I get around 200 k's for a half tank with 33's. It may be time for a tune , what are you running ignition wise standard points or electronic ignition?Hardzy wrote:what sort of kms do you get out of these motors. just trying to see if my motor needs a big tune up. i went through half a tank and it drove 160 kms. is this the sort of milage the rest of you get with these things?
They both return close on 14 mpg or 20l/100kms, the 4.5 will do the 100kms alot faster, it doesnt seem to matter how you drive them either, max torque is 3400 rpm, who ever gets the needle that far? they r not usually driven like that, but if they r, same economy.....go figure
A manual on the highway doing 90km/hr at 2300 will return 16l/100 in good tune.

Depends on your capabilities I guess, I did the conversion at home with a few mates, only paid for someone to do the wiring.
Now why would you hate Fuel injected cars in the bush???
I hate carbys...
Last weekend I drove through a river crossing (snorkel not connected) where the water came up over the bonnet. The 1uz ran on 7 cylinders for about 1km then all good.

i hate computer controlled cars because they are a pain and usualy require a tow when they stop on the side of the road or in the bush. carby cars can nearly always get you beack home.
with the 1uz. do you keep the same gearbox, clutch etc? wled on new engine mounts or are they just adapters to bolt it up?

Yes same gearbox (H55F). I used a dellow conversion kit that came with a flywheel and clutch to suit.
There seems to be a lot of debate about CRS v Dellow v Marks adaptors for conversion gear but all I can say is I have had no dramas with mine.
With mine we cut the original engine mounts off the chassis and welded on new ones made to suit the soarer engine brackets coupled with the landcruiser rubber mounts (hope that makes sense).

yeah the 3f seem to be a good motor. i picked up mine from a mechanic who had the logbooks. he bought it at 154000kms with all services done, he kept a record of services and maintance and the motor has 472000 and still sounds new. just goes to show you keep the services up to date and they will last forever.

so the Conrods never fail on a carb'd car? pistons never crack? heads never crack? radiators never split? alternators/batteries never die? ignition coils/points never cark it?Hardzy wrote:i hate computer controlled cars because they are a pain and usualy require a tow when they stop on the side of the road or in the bush. carby cars can nearly always get you beack home.

never had an EFI car fail on me... had plenty of carbies die tho.
Spit my last breath
yeah all those things happen. but most of the time you can repair a carby car. no sensors or computer controlled safety sensors etc. just easier and quicker to diagnose a problem. well, for me anyway, i dont vnture into the modern computer controlled engines too much, hense the reason i wouldnt have a clue what to do if one died on me in the bush
