40 series checkerplate

40 series checkerplate
Just wondering if anyone knows of places here in Aus, preferably QLD, that supply the rear quarter panel covers in checkerplate. All the yanks seem to be all over them, but cost a $hitload to send over here. Must be someone over here that does them.

Awesome! I had no idea MAF had an Australian outlet. Not alot on their site yet but they are stll building it by the looks. They have the bushings for early tie rod ends to late model knuckle arms too.woodyjbh wrote:Something like this you mean???

The thing that interested me most was the shackle reversal kit. Combine it with a set of 45 series trayback rear springs (Their really long) and the front of the 40 flexes like crazy.
just gotta figure out what to put on the rear. Thinking the same springs with drop shackles...
I've emailed Dave at Man a Fre several times and they've always been super quick to respond, which is always a good sign in my book.
The 2 other places I've been getting 40 info from lately are Rob from Jeep City and Ken from Eureka off road. Both seem to know a fair bit about whats going on...

I put mine up after scraping the right rear corner in a tight creek bed. There was no rust there, I fixed and painted the body work and decided to put the checkerplate on there to stop it happening in the future. There's been a few times I've nudged stuff that would normally leave a nice gouge in the guard or at minimum scrape the paint off but with the plate on there you'd never know it happened. When I made the drop down tailgate I covered it in checkerplate to match. Can't say I was hoping it would win any beauty contests but I think it does it's job and doesn't look ugly doing it.
probably lots of rust now. Checkerplate is great for promoting and hiding rust growth. Moisture gets trapped between it and the panel and it just rusts your car away. I sealed around mine and it was sweet, looks good, works great! But I do think its very 1999-2000, having said that Ray is normally quite on top of the fashion trends with his white leather shoes and frosted tips, popped collar and fancy haircuts! I dont know how he commited this fashion crime.

Possibly, however i primed and painted the inside face of the checkerplate and siliconed the edges to stop water ingress. I also have ERPS fitted. Like I said before, I don't think it looks terrible and at the same time I don't expect it to win any beauty contests. It serves a purpose and is also good at keeping tailgaters at bay. They tend not to follow too close at night as their headlights reflect back in their eyes.

Gee they dont miss you on the price, might just have a crack at doing it myself. What does everyone think the neatest way to bend it would be?
Im not hiding the rust on my truck, none in that area, just like the look of it. Thanks for the feedback about sealing up the panels though, will definately do the same.

No rust but my tailgate was warped. So i bent it back and worked it with my new lights. 3mm Steel grid plate.
I also use it for under the doors.
I know its not a 40 series. But it is relevant to the checker plate idea.
Some people like it. Some dont. Its my car. Not theirs. I know the reason i did it for. They dont.
If your using aluminium or thin sheet steel.
Try and use a guide the same radius as your quarters. If you cant bend it by hand over the sample radius, I think you may have to get a section rolled in a press. (i have a very limited sheetmetal experience )
