Hi
I've got a '77 FJ40 with 351 Cleveland
now the FJ's been sitting in the garage for like a week without starting and tonight I started her up 1st go, drove 15 kms highway driving and turned her off, 2 mins later don't have enough juice to start her up again.
Had to jump start it with my other car while its revving around 1500rpm or a lil more to have enough to start the FJ40.
I didnt have my multimeter handy so would like to ask for opinions or suggestions if this is a battery not holding up the charge or the alternator not charging the battery?
I drove this FJ40 2 weeks ago for 8hrs and had the same issue when re-starting.
How do I test if its the battery or the alternator going?
Cheers

Sounds like a crook battery (assuming no ALT light or low voltage/excessive current on dash meters (did 40's have ammeter or voltmeter? - can't remember) but could be as simple a loose terminal/poor earth-point.
First step check battery (your local auto-elec/battery place should load-test it for free and take it from there.
cheers

To check the charge rate of the battery with muilti meter
check battery voltage vehicle not running all lights and acc's off.
should be 12.5 -12.8 volts then start vehicle should be 14.2 or close to that . also check with load on the alternator. headlights on high beam, spot lights on and see if there is a difference.
