I have pulled out my diffs to change gears from the stock 4.88 to 3.5. now the pinnion gear won't fit. It fouls up on the inside of the housing by 4 to 5 mm on diameter, and is still about 10mm before the bearing seats down. has anyone done this? are there different housings? After any advice before i go hacking at the housing or pinnion gear. help please
Lloyd

problem changing hilux diff gears

you may need housings from later, taller ratio diffs to fit 3.5:1 gears. you may also find that even if you are able to sufficiently clearance the housing, there will not be sufficient adjustment available in the side bearing adjusters to get a correct backlash/pattern.
what year are your original diffs from? what brand are the 3.5:1 gears?

The factory 4.88 housing is different to other ratios. You will need non-4.88 housings to run 3.5 ratios.
