Jimny Control Arms
Jimny Control Arms
Hey all
My uncle's jimny just had new control arms (not sure which ones or how many) done for $750 (!!!) as he bent them - only this time last year i'd say one let go on the road as well after some 4wding...
They seem to be uselessy weak and shite... its unmodified too! (stock tyres and springs).
Is there a decent (cheap) aftermarket beef up option??? As he's being banned from future trips due to the repair costs! haha

Re: Jimny Control Arms
Hmmmm i had this same problem and i didnt want to spend $700 i think there from snakeracing. The cheapest way is to make them or a companie on ebay called outdoor auto or something but i dont know if he still does them

stock arms are actually designed to flex. Adding stiffer arms will result in mount failure, especially as aftermarket arms generally come with aftermarket urethane bushes.

thanks guys...
Steve - what would your solution be??? i mean - the jimny is stock as a rock - how are people running 2" lift and larger tyres without completely anihilating arms on a regular basis???
The UK site is still pretty expensive when you factor in shipping and conversion of currency.
Is there a way of beefing the factory one up? From memory theyre cast so welding would be difficult i suppose.

get a piece of steel pressure pipe with a diameter approx the height of the arm and the length of the arm, slice it in half so you have 2 concave half pipe lengths weld each half to the left and right side of the arm ( you may have to crush the pipe at the body end to fit). It will not bend after this!.
and yes you can weld to the arms even thou they look cast and no it won't rip the control arm mounts off (unless you hit something with a stupid force).
I've been running this for approx 110000km with 60mm lift and 235/75's it feels solid off road.
I bent many arms before doing this. If you can weld give it a go.
