Hey all,
I recently fitted a boost gauge to my 90 rocky and was stunned by the boost reading I was seeing. I checked the wastegate lines etc and noticed some oil residue around the diaphram. I was suspicious that the waste gate wasn't being so wastefull so I proceeded to hang out the window with the bonnet open and check the wastegate shaft for movement whilst my bro floored it. Yep no actuation whatsoever. So its been like this for about 2 years now. I'm wondering if i should bother fixing it either by getting the diaphram replaced or just a second hand one (anyone got one?).
i'm not too fussed it sounds and goes great!

To test the actuator properly apply regulated air pressure to the acutator, looking out the window will not really give you a great idea of its opperation. My old TD ran about 15psi. Have you modified the pump flow and compensator settings. Just winding up the boost in a diesel will not really get huge differences till you bump up the fuel, but this causes your EGT to rise and your engine opperating temp to jump too.

I havent played with it at all because I never had a boost gauge attached. If the actuator was working though , the shaft would move every time it got to full boost ( I put a mark on it ) and I think that 17+/- is a bit much . I might replace the actuator line be fore I write it off. There is a lot of oily residue aroung the diaphram though. If i do pull it off though I will try your test.
When you say " compensator " do you mean " Auxillary air control " The valve that adjusts extra fuel delivery relative to the boost pressure.. This can be adjusted ?
