I know that the 6.2's have heating problems. I would like to know if replacing the standard radiator with an ally one will help and if an ally radiator will stand up to the rough stuff. I plan on making a fibre glass shroud to surround the fan ( which i'll replace with a steel falcon fan). the fibre glass shroud works very well on my 14 ltr cummins engine so i hope it will work well on my ute. does any one know of any other ways to disipate the heat in these engines. it runs a standard v belt type water pump.

You may have the v belt pulleys put on the engine when it was originally a serpentine belt drive pump, this means it will be turning in the wrong direction. Im not exactly sure how to confirm this.
A fan shroud will help very considerably.
The back of each cylinder head has outlets, these can be plumbed back to the radiators top tank to promote better flow as they are in hot spots.
A high flow water pump will help too, but can be expensive.
Are you losing water? If you are you may have the same problem as me with my 6.5, blown head gasket. Check for this by putting your overflow hose into a bottle of water and see if it blows bubbles, if it does, blown gasket.

the pulley set up is correct. I didn't know about the outlets at the back, that's good thanks.
I went to the radiator shop and he tried selling me a thermo fan, it's pretty big but i'm not sure. he claims it draws 1754 cfm.
the engine isn't usinjg water, it just gets hot and i would like to reduce the problem as much as possible.

engine driven fan will beat a thermo no probs.
if you do much off road you will need the engine driven fan.
can you get another row into the radiator?
engine driven with shroud is the go IMO
i would stay away from the alloy one if you can they are bit brittle for off road and tend to fail quite easily (by comparison)

Have you considered installing Bonnet Vents at the rear of your bonnet. Because hot air rises it is extracted while you drive. The vents have a Venturi effect and hot air is sucked out as you drive. The more hot air you can displace the more cold air you can have coming in through your Radiator . Try it , it works. Mick
