Fourtrak ,, starting problem ?????

Post by SHORTY1969 »

Hi yall ! Im on my sixth fourtrak now and can honestly say ive never had a bit of bother with any of them until this one !!! When its bein lying over nite it takes three attempts to get it going , so far ive replaced the heater plugs ,checked for leaks in pipes ,all ok , by passed the filter housing , clamped the feed and return over nite , still doing it  when its bein started its fine all day starts no probs . cracked open the injectors this morning ,nothing for first few turns ,then couple of small spits of diesel . could it be the pump ? :?

I'd try replacing the diaphram in the primer pump (or the whole assembly) Especially if you park on a hill overnight, if it is cracked/split etc it allows the fuel to drain back to the tank then it can be a mongrel to get started, if you can start it at all.

As a test you could try clamping the fuel line where it connects to the primer pump/filter housing off, then in the morning release it and start straight away.

How long do your glow plugs stay on for in the morning? Might be a faulty glow plug relay not providing sufficient heat before you try to start. Maybe give the glow plug circuit 2-3 runs before you try strating and see if that works.

My next step would be a compression test

I'm thinking more along the lines of sucking air, but a compression test will be a good place to strat
