Bbrokem top shock mount help

Yesterday I was out with my girlfriend. When we got back to my 1984 60 series there was a note on the window to look at my front shocks. (Thank you to who ever left that btw) My passenger side shock was hanging off the bottom mount as the top one has snapped off near the chassis. The mount appears to be rivoted to the chassis as there is no head to the bolts that hold it on. I have a friend who can weld pretty good. Should I get this mount welded back together or is there a way to replace the whole mount with a new or used one? Any help would be appreciated. I took the shock off to drive home with.

Hi Pink, thanks for the idea. I've attached some pics here. I went to REPCO today and there was a mechanic there as well from a local 4wd store who took a look at it and said to just weld it up as there is no after market bolt on bits.

oh ok now i see what you mean, yea it'd probably be better if you grind that bracket right off and made up a knew one and welded that on or just weld it back together like a jigsaw puzzle. good luck.

Have you fitted longer shocks to this? Perhaps too long and its using the shock as a bump stop? Is there access on the other side of the chassis rail to get to the back of the rivets? If so you can grind and drill out the rivets to remove that mount and get a second hand mount from a wrecker (if they are happy to grind one off a chassis for you). Just bolt it on with high tensile bolts through the rivet holes. Otherwise if you don't have access to the inside of the rail just weld it on.

you could use F truck shock towers if you can get them. only thing would be you would have to use eye-to-eye instead of eye-to-pin shocks

Hardest bit would be removing the existing shock mounts. oh and you might want to upgrade both at the same time too.. more $ (shocks + towers)

Ray is on the right track here tho id firstly measure the compressed length of the shock then go flex the front end so its on the bump stop on the side with the busted mount then measure the distance were the shock goes to make sure your not bumping out your shock (this will stuff them) then work out if you need to raise the top mount (which looks to me like ya do)

Make up new stronger mounts for both sides cut off the original ones then mig on the new taller tougher ones then you should be all good

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my last trip away, road between Tibbo and Camerons Corner. Bad corrugations, on corners which was impossible to take fast enough to glide over them. It broke the same place on my HJ75.

Quite common I have sold a few over the years of wrecking Toyota Landcruisers etc.

I replaced a busted 40 series shock mount by drilling the rivets out and replacing the tower and fastening with decent grade bolts.. Wasnt keen to weld the mount as its some cast rubbish, but pressed steel like you have would probably work ok, provided the welder knew what was going on.. I checked the frame on a parts 60 here, access to the rear of the rivets is difficult, so I'd go with welding before replacing..
