probably a dumb question but
I bought some diffs/axles ages ago, and they were advertised as 4.8s, so the plan was to swap centres, but when I was cleaning up the housing ready for the swap, I noticed pink writing saying hilux 4.3, ive been told I have 4.5 in my lux(86, diesel).
Anyway, im not going to use the centres now, but my question is,
Are the axles and hubs/etc the same on the 4.3 as they are on the 4.5??
If so, I can keep the axles and hubs/etc for spares, and just sell the centres.

yes, all the other gears is universal.
As far as them beeing stamped 4.3 have you actually done a gear count, it is very possible that someone put 4.8 gear sets in the 4.3 centre, count the teeth on both the ring and pinions gears and work out the ratio before you just get rid of them

If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
Thanks for that.
Also, i want to be sure i have put enough grease in the knuckles before i drive.
If I take the square plug out of the top of the knuckle, how do i get grease into there?? i packed knuckles with grease by hand. I just want to top it up so I know theres enough in there.

Reduces wear issues as each tooth always sees every other tooth. Harder for patterns to set in.

Non Hunting gears will have and odd/even set up.
4.875 are 39-8.
Simply count ring teeth and divide by pinion teeth to get ratio. And definitely count them first!

probably a dumb question but
correct 39 / 8 = 4.875 all other prats axles CV's are the same the rear axles may have different backing plates and brakes etc. Depending on what model the diffs came from.diby_2000 wrote:4.875 is 39 teeth on ring gear and 8 on pinion I think.

probably a dumb question but
don't over fill it! just packing cv and a bit inside the knuckle should be sufficent. I have heard of people filling the housing with oil or grease, swivel housing seals arn't designed to hold grease or oil in, they are to stop water and mud etc getting in from outside. if you fill it pressure builds up from heat when driving and the oil and grease will leak out of the swivel housing either into diff tube to diff centre or out onto the ground through the back of the swivel housing.DUDELUX wrote:Thanks for that.
