on my first lux, I chopped the chassis right behind the spring hangers and just welded a new cross member inbetween the ends (made of C channel), it passed a roadworthy after it was done.

mate any moddifications to your chassis is illegal and i think you might have to get it engineered to pass it. just cause some one will do a roady on some thing does not mean its right

It is illegal but so is the most basic of modifactions, mines been cut off 100mm back from the rear shackle hanger, i just welded a bit of scrap across the rails to stop it from moving when i cut it and welded in a 5mm bit of 75x75 and half checked it and turned it into a tow bar that doesnt get hung up on everything.

So long as your not cutting the chassis behind the front hanger (which is impossible), or behind the rear its not the end of the world.

Most rwc guys/police/qld trans/rta etc wouldn't even know.

Being mod plated, and being legal are 2 very different things :P. The rules are not black and white in most cases, an engineer may choose to twist it.

I've seen the chassis cut mod plated in the middle of the chassis. Although i dont know what qld trans would think of it.

very true berad, i would probably mod plate it to try and keep the boys in blue/transport off your back but at the same time if the job is neat and looks fairly stock no one should really notice. all up to the person with the car i suppose
