Pajero G63B

Post by mercxr6T »

Hey guys. My mate just bought a 86 pajero with a g63B 2lt turbo petrol engine. Was wondering if they are a factory thing or if it has been converted. Hes also having some problems with it, it dosn't want to rev and sounds like its choking ( my guess is the previous owner has gotten water in some place it shouldnt be). Anyone out there with any experience with these motors ????. Apart from the problems hes having it seems to be in very good condition and he would like to get it going well ASAP so any advice would be great. Cheers

I've never heard of the 2l turbo being sold in Australia, so it's either a conversion or a grey import.

Those motors are typically quite happy to rev, so I'd guess there's a problem - but NFI what the problem might be. Start with the basics like ignition timing, even pull a plug and confirm the timing marks on the crank line up with TDC. You could also try checking the valve timing, make sure there's no problem there.

If it's a turbo is it making boost? The wastegate isn't stuck open?

Hey Scott. Thanks for the advice mate. My mate and myself dont really know what we are doing but we pulled the airbox side of the turbo and can see the turbo spinning. It even spins on idle and when you try reving it up it dosnt spin any faster. My mates dad will be able to check all the other stuff you mentioned so cheers. Hopefully he can get it going cause it would have to make a resonable amount of power I reckon. Have a good 1.

Grey import, same engine management as the turbo Cordia/Starion. One of my staff has one.
I should have info if you need it, but won't be back until 5th of Jan
